Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers might’ve parted ways, but the 76ers are still in the player’s head. And as one would expect, Simmons is relishing the Sixers’ exit from the playoffs after a loss to the Boston Celtics. Yes, the Philadelphia 76ers’ season has gone down the drain once again after losing in the Conference Semi-Finals for the second time in a row. To make matters worse, this was their sixth straight year falling short of the conference finals. This was also their third Game 7 loss in the last five years.

This shows how consistently bad the 76ers have been while Ben Simmons enjoys the time of his life. Simmons, via an Instagram story threw shade at his ex-team, the Philadelphia 76ers. He simply posted a story of himself watching a basketball game. The game, however, was Game 7 between the Sixers and the Celtics, and the score line read 108-78. Simmons was cozied up in a blanket with a glass of wine as he seemed to be enjoying their downfall.

While he didn’t add any caption to the image, it can easily be understood that Simmons was throwing shade at his ex-team. We’ll go into the messy split between the team and the player in more detail later. But the entire world was focused on how poorly the Sixers performed. With 15 points, their freshly minted MVP, Joel Embiid, was the third-best player on his own team. Tobias Harris led the team in scoring, with Tyrese Maxey close behind.

The team also conceded a Game-7 high 51 points to the Celtics’ Jayson Tatum, who outclassed everyone else. With this loss, the 76ers have now been thrown out of the playoffs, and their journey this season comes to an end.

Ben Simmons’ exit from the Philadelphia 76ers wasn’t smooth. In fact, it was far from smooth. The Philadelphia 76ers, as the top seed, were eliminated by the Atlanta Hawks in Game 7 of the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Simmons faced criticism for passing up a wide-open dunk, leading to doubts about his performance. During the offseason, he requested a trade from the Sixers following their playoff exit. At the start of the 2022 regular season, Simmons chose not to play, citing mental readiness issues. Eventually, Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, resulting in James Harden joining the Philadelphia team.

This deal was not beneficial to either party since the scenario appears to be a lose-lose situation. The 76ers have been knocked out of the Conference Semi-Finals twice in a row without Simmons. The situation hasn’t looked good for Simmons either. During the current season, Simmons appeared in 42 games for the Nets. Within 26.3 minutes per game, he averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.3 steals.

Simmons has gone from being an All-Star caliber player to being a huge letdown. Despite not playing a single game in the last three months, he was one of the Top 5 Hated players. It would be interesting to see how Simmons bounces back from his current situation.
