“Is he taking the torch more from Kawhi Leonard?” Bill Simmons feels Jayson Tatum is yet to surpass Kevin Durant in NBA hierarchy

Kawhi Leonard and Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum has unleashed his wrath on the Brooklyn Nets in the first-round series of 2021-22 playoffs, making everyone fall in love with his scoring prowess and dominance on the offensive end. While plethora of analysts and former players have urged Tatum and Celtics to clean sweep the Durant, Nets. Simmons recently urged that even then the young and charismatic Celtics scorer would have not surpassed the former MVP in the NBA hierarchy chart.

The 24-year-old was always known as an offensive juggernaut yet his defensive abilities in the first-round series against the Nets has reached new heights. On the same note, on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons exclaimed how Jayson Tatum could be taking the torch from one of NBA’s best forwards, Los Angeles Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard.

Simmons thinks the idea of Jayson Tatum becoming a new version of Kawhi Leonard is more appropriate, saying, “Is he taking the torch more from Kawhi as the best traditional two-way forward we have in the league? … Durant is the best scoring offensive forward that I think we are ever gonna have in my lifetime … but I think he could be a better defender than Durant.”

Jayson Tatum has simply been sensational leading his Boston Celtics in the 2021-22 season. Given that Boston were always going to be a tough opponent for the Brooklyn nets, the way the former team has hampered and haunted Steve Nash’s team has impressed everyone.

Moreover, Tatum has completely overshadowed the likes of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the first round series? But has he reached a point where he has out-done the likes of Kawhi Leonard or perhaps Kevin Durant? Remains to be a huge matter of debate. Will we witness Jayson Tatum inspiring the Celtics past the Nets in one of the most ruthless cleans weeps in the playoffs? Or will KD help Nets fight back in this first-round series? Remains to be seen as the hoop festivity continues.
