One of the trades that shook the landscape of the NBA this offseason was the Phoenix Suns acquiring Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, second-round picks, and pick swaps. Beal was drafted by the Wizards as the third overall pick back in the 2012 NBA draft and spent 11 seasons with the team.
In a recent interview with Deyscha Smith of SLAM, Beal revealed his initial surprise when he learned about a potential trade to Phoenix. He thought he might be traded for the Suns’ franchise player, Devin Booker. Beal expressed his wonderment at the idea of Phoenix parting ways with Booker, considering him as their best player since he burst onto the NBA scene.
Beal said, “I was like, ‘Why are they trading Book?’ Like there’s no way that this is happening. Like, this can’t be, this isn’t right. But fast forward, he’s here, I’m here and Kevin’s here and DA’s here. It’s surreal and crazy to think about how the deal even came to fruition, but it’s done and I’m in an awesome situation where I can compete every single night for a chance to win.”
It indeed is incredible how the Suns have managed to keep their star players on their roster and added Beal to the mix. A lot of the credit should go to their GM and president of basketball operations, James Jones, who has transformed the franchise into a winning team since he was put in charge in 2017.
The Phoenix Suns have indeed been one of the most active teams this offseason, making significant moves to strengthen their roster. In addition to acquiring Beal, they have also bolstered their bench with key additions like Keita Bates-Diop, Yuta Watanabe, Drew Eubanks, Chimezie Metu, Eric Gordon, and, most recently, Bol Bol.

How does Bradley Beal fit in with the Phoenix Suns?
Bradley Beal’s presence as a shooting guard adds a terrific offensive dimension to the Phoenix Suns. With two second-place finishes in the league’s scoring charts, along with numerous 50-point games and a remarkable 60-point performance to his credit, Beal is a scoring force to be reckoned with.
Coupled with the scoring talents of future Hall of Famers Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, the Suns have assembled an offensive juggernaut. The newly formed ‘Big 3′ in the Valley is expected to lead the charge in their pursuit of the Suns’ first-ever NBA Championship.
With the departure of both Chris Paul and Cam Payne in trades with the Wizards and Spurs, respectively, Bradley Beal is set to take on a new role for the Phoenix Suns as their starting point guard. Despite being primarily known as a scoring threat, Beal has showcased his playmaking abilities during his time with the Wizards, evidenced by his career-high 17 assists in a game against the Chicago Bulls in 2022.
New head coach Frank Vogel has emphasized Beal’s facilitator role, which is expected to open up the floor for the Suns’ offense. The versatility of having Beal at the point guard position is a significant asset for Phoenix, as he can make up for any off-nights from stars like Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
