The French prospect Victor Wembanyama continues to swim in controversies following an incident with pop sensation Britney Spears in Las Vegas. Earlier this week, the French rookie got into an altercation with Spears, which has spiraled out of control. Spears is now demanding a public apology from the San Antonio Spurs star.
The incident happened in a hotel in Las Vegas where Spears was slapped by Wembanyama’s security. A viral clip of the incident was uploaded by TMZ, Britney was seen running towards the 19-year-old and was hit on her head. Victor Wembanyama had reportedly apologised to Spears but the pop star wants a public apology to end the drama.
Britney Spears took to social media to speak about the incident, firing shots at a Radio Show host, “This radio station talking s**t .. Saying that I deserved to get smacked … I’ve been with the most famous people in the world … girls would like literally throw themselves at them on my way into the place … and my security not one time touched them.” Spears added, ” Point being is I didn’t appreciate the people saying I deserve to be hit.”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has already issued a statement, “no charges will be filed against the person involved.” After they concluded an investigation of the case, the French big man will escape the situation untouched.
Although things seem to be burning hot between the two, the fiasco is likely to die down soon. Spears is busy with her memoir ‘The Women in Me’ releasing in October and Wembanyama is looking ahead to prepare for his NBA rookie season.
Wembanyama to disappear from the MEDIA
Following the Las Vegas incident and his NBA Summer League debut, the French prospect announced that he will be taking his time away from the public. He will also be shut down for the rest of the summer league after playing two games in Vegas. The decisions came as the Spurs rookie is looking to fully focus on basketball for the rest of the off-season.
Wembanyama on his offseason preparation, “I got 2-3 great months that are coming and they’re gonna change my life. I’m probably gonna disappear from the media for the next months, honestly.” The 19-year-old also added, “I’m glad it’s over (NBA draft)…I just wanna hoop,”
The 7-footer had also stated that he will be missing the upcoming FIBA World Cup and next year’s Paris Olympics. His conclusion resulted in a joint decision with the Spurs organization to limit the big man from playing too many games. Wembanyama had previously won the silver medal in the U-19 FIBA World Cup.
The French team will have to make do without their potential starting player. Despite Wembanyama’s absence the French team still boasts one of the best rosters in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
