Brittney Griner is undoubtedly a generational and unique talent in WNBA’s history. She is a champion and has a stacked resume with multiple personal records, achievements and honors registered under her name. She also has a list of achievements for the time she spent overseas playing basketball, especially in Europe. But still, Brittney Griner is stuck in Russia and held as a “political prisoner” for months. While her wife Cherelle Griner is making the best possible efforts to get her back on the American soil.
With all of these happening around and Cherelle meeting Joe Biden to get reassured about the efforts being made to bring back Brittney to America. A video of Cherelle discussing everything about Brittney Griner’s detainment has resurfaced on the internet where she revealed horrific sequences of events related to the whole story.
As of now, Brittney Griner is serving her nine long years sentence in the Russian Penal Colony. As she recently pleaded guilty for the drugs smuggling charges (officials found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage) which have got her booked for a year less than a decade. She also mentioned the medical purpose behind those and how it was all unintentionally done. But the Russian officials and the court cared the least about her.
Cherelle though was the first one to get an idea about Brittney Griner’s arrest. As she revealed in an interview of her. Where breaking down in tears she requested the country to not forget the WNBA superstar and make efforts to bring her back. She also requested President Joe Biden to use the powers he has to bring BG back on American Soil. And, even efforts were made to get that done but none of those were successful and the story is very same today.

Cherelle talking about Brittney Griner taken into the custody by Russian officials in an interview of her as she learned about it via text, quoted: “I first heard the news through Brittney, actually. She started texting me [at] around 2 a.m. that morning [saying], ‘Babe, babe, babe, wake up, they have me in this room, I don’t know what’s going on.’ So I instantly text back: ‘Who are they and what room?’”
Further Cherelle talking about Brittney Griner’s arrest added: “And she’s like, ‘The customs people, they just grabbed me as I was going through and they have me in this room.’ Then she sent me a message and said, ‘They’re about to take my phone, don’t text anymore.” So I’m like, “Just call me when you can.’ That was it. We’re what, 96 days? And the phone call never came.”
As of now, Biden Administration is trying to get her back on American Soil in a prisoner swap deal. But Russia is getting just too greedy and is trying to make the most out of the deal. So predicting or claiming her return isn’t even possible yet.
