The Houston Rockets had a rough season, finishing with a 22-60 record that tied them for second-worst in the NBA. The team was in rebuilding mode after trading away James Harden and Russell Westbrook in previous years and leaned on a young core led by Jalen Green, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 draft.

Green was a bright spot for the Rockets, averaging 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He also earned Rookie of the Month honors for March and made the All-Rookie Team. But his individual success did not translate into team wins, as the Rockets ended up at the bottom of the Western Conference.

Despite the dismal outcome, Green remained hopeful about the future of the franchise. In a recent Instagram live session, he made a bold prediction for next season: “Yeah, we’re in the playoffs next year. That’s what the plan is, that’s what the goal is: Try and get some wins. It’s a whole different year next year. We going in different. Coming in hot. Light the fuse!

Green’s confidence and ambition are admirable, but his claim also drew some comparisons with another young star in the league: De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings. Sacramento Kings famously came up with “Light the Beam” as their team’s mantra for this season, which became a viral sensation on social media.

NBA fans were quick to roast Green for his bold claims, saying that he thought he was Fox or that he was delusional. Some even suggested that he should focus on winning more than 22 games before talking about the playoffs.

The Western Conference is notoriously competitive, and several teams that missed out this year will be looking to bounce back with healthy rosters and improved rosters. The Rockets will also face some challenges of their own as they’ll have to find a balance between their offense and defense and have to develop strong chemistry between their young players.

Green may or may not be able to lead the Rockets to the playoffs next season, but he has certainly lit a spark of hope and excitement for the fans of one of the most storied franchises in NBA history.
