Brooklyn Nets championship odds changed from 18-1 to 9-1 after Kevin Durant decided to stay put for 2022-23 season

Kevin Durant has decided to roll with the Brooklyn Nets once again after a hectic and troublesome off-season. Earlier in June, he requested to be trade as he had no interest in the team’s future or to be part of it. After fifty-five failed deals and discussions, the Nets ultimately had to come up with a plan for him to come to terms with them.

The former NBA Champion initially gave owner Joe Tsai an ultimatum asking him to fire the front office official Sean Marks and Head Coach Steve Nash. The owner wisely responded saying his support lies in the interests of the Nets organisation. Turns out a every party involved worked it out and settled to run it back.

Nets title odds experience a massive boost following Kevin Durant’s agreement

Kevin Durant is a top scorer in the league at the moment who will have tremendous effect on the Nets offense. A few hours before announcing his return, the team revealed that all trade discussions involving Kyrie Irving were terminated. Irving’s departure was more unlikely as he willingly decided to sign a one-year extension worth $36.5 million rather than the multi-year deal he did not receive.

J.E Skeets, a well known NBA associate revealed that the Nets odds to win the title jumped from 18/1 to 19/1 following Durant’s decision to stay. Late season also had many envisioning the Nets winning the title. But all hopes faded when the team begin to show weakness on defense and KD was helpless on offense.

The Nets rely on players other than Kevin Durant to win a title

Putting aside Kevin Durant and his abilities, the Nets have to shift their focus onto the defensive side of things. Ben Simmons will be their top defender if he returns fully healthy. The former defensive player of the year candidate was recently cleared for three-on-three scrimmages after his back injury thay occurred during the playoffs.

The return of Joe Harris will also help shake the defensive attention off KD. Harris, the former three-point competition champion has had a shot percentage of 43.9% and has the ability to get hot at times. Besides this, Irving will have to remain available unlike last season. His absence ruined team chemistry and led to the break up of the Big 3 featuring James Harden.
