It’s difficult to criticize Dillon Brooks‘ Friday’s defensive efforts against LeBron James, too harshly. The four-time MVP finished with 23 points, his fewest since December 9, on just 8 of 21 shots from the field. In the big scheme of things, it might be argued that Brooks protected James better than anybody else had since Anthony Davis went down. James had been averaging 34.1 points per game on over 55 percent shooting since AD’s absence.

Post-game Brooks spoke on his defensive efforts against LeBron James and it looks like he may have after all cracked the code to defending “The King”. He said, “He doesn’t want to go left. I was just making him go left all game. Then he would settle or he would pass the ball. And then play physical with him. Continuously bump him all of the time. And don’t let him take easy shots.”

It was undoubtedly a successful strategy for the game because James’ semi-compromise forced the other Lakers (in this case, Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schröder) to defeat Memphis in the closing minutes. So all the efforts of Dillon Brooks were unfortunate as the Grizzlies settled with a loss.

James was really not content. In total, he made 13 shots in the paint versus Memphis, including nine from inside the perimeter. In his 20th season, he shoots more jump shots than he did at his best, but against the Grizzlies, his shot selection was less of an issue than his execution. Even so, Brooks undoubtedly had a hand in some of those missed opportunities.

Shannon Sharpe, an NFL Hall of Famer, made news on Friday night at Crypto.com Arena when he got into an argument with the Memphis Grizzlies players and Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant. After the end of the second quarter, when Sharpe claimed Dillon Brooks was too tiny to stop LeBron James, things quickly got out of hand.

Referees and security had to step in to defuse the altercation after both parties traded profanity. As more people were involved, the fight became more and more violent. After the game, Brooks made some sassy remarks about the entire situation.

He said, “I ain’t talking about that. You can ask him. He’s the blogger or whatever he is. I don’t really care about all that.” After the heated argument at halftime, Sharpe, as a spectator, shouldn’t have been permitted to enter the building, according to Brooks. He said, “A regular pedestrian like him? No. He should have never come back in the game, but it’s LA,”
