The Milwaukee Bucks fired their rookie head coach Adrian Griffin 43 games into the season. Although the reasons for the firing have been documented, fans are brewing their own theories surrounding the sensational move.
Griffin was hired as the head coach of the Bucks this season. This was after firing their championship-winning head coach Mike Budenholzer. The Bucks’ decision to go with a rookie head coach was based on the possibility of a small retool.
Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez were unsure of signing back with the team. Another point is that superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo gave hints of an imminent departure if the team was not built to win championships. Such was the uncertainty surrounding them, getting a rookie head coach to start a new era was probably the best choice.
The situation took a dramatic turn as Lopez and Middleton re-signed. GM Jon Horst went out and traded for Damian Lillard. Suddenly Griffin was thrust into a win-now atmosphere, often a difficult task for anyone holding the head coaching job for the first time in their life. The Bucks hired Griffin to establish a new identity going forward.
Despite posting a 30-13 record, cracks have appeared in the way the Bucks have played throughout the season. The margin of the wins was small, and the defense was one of the league’s worst. More importantly, the superstars did not seem to respect Griffin. Lillard had seemingly had trouble settling down while Giannis has also been reported to have had disagreements with the HC.
Fans bring out their own theories regarding the Bucks
NBA on TNT and Bleacher Report Insider Chris Haynes gave an insight as to what went down between the Bucks and Griffin. But fans have their own theories. The stories from the official camps have not convinced them. Some pointed out that Giannis Antetokounmpo might have some part in the firing of Griffin.
So as fans waited for more news to come from the Bucks camp, they did not waste time to come up with their own versions of the truth. They posted their opinions on social media as soon as the news of Griffin’s firing came out. Check out some of the comments below:
Fan theories can be wild. But no one knows for sure all the nitty gritty details that led to the Bucks taking this decision. As we await, it is interesting to deduce whether there might be any truth to what the fans believe.
