Almost ten individuals were taken into police custody after attempting to carry out a mass shooting outside the arena and within the same locality. The suspects caught were in possession of nine weapons which could have resulted in a very bad outcome.
The initial attacks took place in Deer District where the authorities took two individuals who were driven to a hospital by a 26-year-old woman in a car. The suspect, a 29-year-old male was soon arrested after the attack had taken place. A few moments later, the arena witnessed the shooting while several people rushed away or into the stadium for cover. Around 20 people were injured but no life-threatening cases were recorded.
The Bucks make a huge announcement following the Fiserv Forum attacks
An outside watch party is a usual occurrence during NBA games outside of the arenas where a large group of supporters gathers to cheer their local team. The events following Game 6 has left the entire state of Milwaukee in worry about their safety on the roads. Mayor Cavalier Johnson had asked the team to cancel the event which would have brought them an added 10,000 plus people in attendance.
The Milwaukee Bucks team released a statement that said, “The shooting that happened in downtown Milwaukee last night were horrific and we condemn this devastating violence.” The state also mentioned the cancelation of the event, “to allow law enforcement to devote needed resources to the continued investigation of last night’s event.”
Milwaukee police authorities speak out for the safety of their citizens
Among the victims of the shooting was a 16-year-old girl who was driven to the hospital by the woman in the car that was mentioned earlier. 10 individuals were taken into custody that fatal night and one admitted that the gunfire was caused by a rivalry between two groups of people. Assistant Police Chief Nicole Waldner was angered by the incident saying, “What makes people think they can just have a shootout on a public street or in an entertainment district, whether police are there or not?”
The Mayor had called for the enforcement of a night curfew on Saturdays and Sundays in Downtown Milwaukee requiring individuals of the age of 20 or young to be off the streets by 11 p.m. Game 7 will be the last chance for the Milwaukee Bucks to clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals versus the Miami Heat. It indeed will be an emotional run after the fatal events that took place but will give them a chance to further defend their title worthiness.
