Byron Scott reveals why Giannis Antetokounmpo is the reason behind his RENEWED love for the NBA

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Byron Scott

After his illustrious career as a player and as a coach Byron Scott almost lost interest in basketball. But Scott says it was Giannis Antetokounmpo who brought his interest back into the game. Scott is a basketball legend not only as a player but also as a coach. The 3 time NBA champion was part of the Showtime Lakers in the 1980s. He also won the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2008.

Many former players from the previous eras sometimes point out that the NBA has become soft and the league is not tough as it used to be before. Scott also lost his interest in the game because he couldn’t enjoy this new era of basketball, where the offensive players are getting too much protection. Talking on a podcast, Scott said,  “A few years ago, I was like, ‘Man, I can’t watch this.’ This year, last year, I started watching more… during the Bubble was hard.”

Scott said when he started watching Giannis Antetokounmpo his view of the game changed. He said, “Last year watching Milwaukee, with Giannis… The Greek Freak, whatever you want to call him. Being able to… Get it off the rim, take it, get to the basket or find guys. But shooting 50-something percent from the free throw line, 20 percent something percent from the three-point line and his mid-range game is so-so. It’s changed the game I look at the game now.” Interestingly, Giannis has been previously criticized by players and NBA analysts to lack the talent for the modern game.

To Giannis Antetokounmpo’s credit, there is a reason he is called “the Greek Freak”. With his 6.9 ft size and 7.3ft wingspan, the Bucks star has definitely changed the modern game of basketball. Despite having below average mid-range jumper and 3-point percentage, Antetokounmpo has won many accolades in his career and he might just be getting started.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is hungrier now and is in quest of another championship

Since starting his career in 2013, Giannis has not only changed his game and body to adapt to dominate the game but also has become a leader by example. Besides Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon, Giannis became the only third player to win the regular season MVP and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season.

After winning two regular season MVP awards in 2019 and 2020, Giannis is back again in the conversation for the MVP award this season. The 2021 NBA season belonged to Antetokounmpo, he won his first NBA championship with the Bucks, All-Star MVP Award, and also his Finals MVP award.

This season, despite missing Khris Middleton so far into the season, the Milwaukee Bucks is the top team in the entire league. Led by Giannis, the Bucks have lost only 2 games into this season. Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.8 points and 1.4 blocks per game. He is the forerunner in the MVP conversation yet again showcasing his dominance. The Bucks and Giannis are the top with +500 odds to win the championship this year, and Middleton’s return would only increase their chance of winning the championship.
