At TD Garden on Wednesday night, the Jayson Tatum led-Boston Celtics humiliated the Kevin Durant-less Brooklyn Nets 139-96. Boston stunned the Nets in the first quarter with an incredible 46 points, leading 46-16 going into the second. After the third quarter, the C’s lead grew to 110-72, and head coach Joe Mazzulla decided to pull his bench for the fourth.

The “Jays” displayed strong play against Kyrie Irving and the Nets. Jaylen Brown ended with 26 points, three rebounds, and three assists in 32 minutes, while Jayson Tatum finished with 31 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block in 29 minutes.

For the 27th time this season, Tatum and Brown both scored more than 25 points in the same contest. That is the most 25-plus point performances by a pair of teammates before the All-Star break in NBA history, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Two teammates have averaged at least 27 points per game while making the official rankings just four other times in league history.

With the victory, the Celtics increased their record to 37-15 and maintained their hold on the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Tatum and Brown have probably been the best tandem in the NBA this season, and as their bond grows, they will only get better.  Tatum and Brown must keep up their strong competition if the Celtics want to win their first championship since 2008.

The Boston Celtics were at full strength while the Brooklyn Nets were without superstar Kevin Durant. Brooklyn was outplayed throughout the entire game. In the first quarter, the Nets went behind 46-16 and never caught up. In the first 12 minutes, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown put on an offensive display, each scoring 18 and 12 points, respectively. During that span, they shot a total 11 of 16 from the field, including 7 of 10 from three.

Following the Brooklyn Nets’ 139-96 loss to the Boston Celtics, Kyrie Irving said it was clear there was a gap between the two squads and that Mazzulla’s group was focused on winning the title. During the Celtics’ 43-point drubbing of the Nets, Irving was unafraid to declare that the Nets felt like simply another “one of those teams.”

Speaking on the matter he said, “It’s clear as day that they want to win the championship and they’re not wasting any time in the regular season. So tonight I just felt like we were just one of those teams in the way. We’ve got to be one of those teams that stands up to them.” That being said the Celtics do indeed have the best record in the league at the moment
