“That’s so disrespectful” Channing Frye believes Shaquille O’Neal has every right to be included in the ‘GREATEST’ players list
Channing Frey on Shaquille O'Neal
Shaquille O’Neal has a huge fan following. So many people love Shaq. Let it be his fun side off the court or his dominant self on the court, he is hard to miss. While he made his name in the league for being the dominant personality and player in the league, he was never considered to be the great one – at least by some analysts’ discussions. Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal was without any doubt one of the NBA’s best players ever. He won 4 NBA titles, 3 Finals MVP Awards, a difficult three-peat, and an even rarer near quadruple. Considering his accomplishments, one would think he would always be part of the greatest players’ conversation. Sadly, that’s not true, and Channing Frye feels bad for that.
While discussing the greatest Lakers of all time, O’Neal is certainly one of them, with 3 titles for them with Finals MVP in all those championships, an MVP Award, and a scoring title with the Lakers. He was one of the most feared players around the league with a 7 ft presence around the rim.
People often know Shaq as a big, goofy, friendly giant who is often seen in many commercials, and TV Shows, talking about NBA. But above all that he was a gifted center with command over both ends of the floor.
Former NBA star Channing Frey was not satisfied with the Lakers’ great title associated with Diesel. He went on the “Road Tripping” show and said, “I just get mad when people don’t include Shaq in the conversation. It’s hard to be, one, for that long in this league and to be unanimously respected. Like, there cannot be one person who is just the greatest.
“That’s so disrespectful it, like, bothers me. Everyone loves this conversation, but stop it, because the things that you judge it by are never the same.”
Shaquille O’Neal – a force to reckon with and a dominant player on the court.
Just like his massive size, Shaquille O’Neal has a big heart and a great sense of humor. But paired with his dominant presence on the hardwood, he is a lethal player for his team. In the all-time scoring list, Shaq finished in the top 10 with 28,596 points. In the rebounding category also, he is15th spot, right behind Hakeem Olajuwon, with 13,099.
Although not very much known for his defense, Shaq managed to get 2,732 blocks good for the 8th spot in the list and impact on the game. Helping Orlando Magic to re-establish them as a playoff team, the 1992-93 Rookie of the Year award had a monstrous 1st season in the league. and was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Eventually, he got 15 All-Star game selections, winning the MVP award on 3 occasions, and 14 All-NBA nods. Rim shackling Shaq had very memorable games and highlights over his 20-season career, entertaining the crowd at every level.
It’s difficult to categorize players for their accomplishments and compare them with one another. Every player’s career is different and has impacted the league differently. Some may win titles, others won’t. But Shaq surely ticks most of the categories to be considered in the greatest conversations.
As great a player as he was, people seem to overlook him. During his playing career from 1992 to 2011, the Diesel racked up the aforementioned accolades. Though Big Shaq might not be in the top 5 lists of GOATs, he makes to the top 10 list of most of those lists. And for his fans, O’Neal is GOAT with a golden heart.
