Shaquille O’Neal was drafted first overall by the Orlando Magic and now after years, he’s planning to buy the whole franchise. He with his mate Penny Hardaway got some early success at Orlando won multiple individual awards from Rookie of the Year to Scoring Title and even got a trip to the NBA Finals. But due to Shaquille O’Neal and the front office of Magic not being able to get on the same page during the contract negotiation caused their break up as the big man took his talent to Los Angeles and joined the Lakers.
With the Lakers, Shaquille O’Neal got himself a career and multiple championships playing alongside Kobe Bryant. But his story with Orlando Magic still remains incomplete. It would have been very different if he decided to stay or got the contract he wanted to. The franchise than today have been a respected one as the road ahead was great and full of success with Shaq and other stars on board. But nothing like that ever happened and in the last decade, they haven’t seen any success.
Orlando Magic got their hands on many great players in the draft during all these struggling years from Dwight Howard, Domantas Sabonis, Aaron Gordon, Victor Oladipo to many others. But they were just unlucky as they got nothing out of it. This year once again they have gathered a good roster and that has many young guns like Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs, Franz, Cole Anthony and some others too. But they still need a piece to fix it all. Shaquille O’Neal believes that he’s that piece and can take the team a level up if he can buy them.
Shaquille O’Neal wants to buy Orlando Magic so that he can take the team up
Shaquille O’Neal on the recent episode of “The Big Podcast” revealed his interest to own Orlando Magic. Sitting alongside Dennis Scott he quoted: “Listen we still run that franchise (Magic). If they wanna sell it to us, DeVos family, we’re ready to go right now… This message goes out to the DeVos family, if you’re ready to sell Orlando Magic, sell it to somebody who’s gonna take it to the next level, that’s us.”
Shaquille O’Neal is probably right with his blind take as of now. As he has the right experience to run a team in the league. He was a minority owner at Sacramento Kings but that didn’t go any right. But with a good control over the team, he may be a game-changer and get the job done. But for that to happen he’ll have to get into talks with DeVos Family who don’t really have a reason to sell the team away. But getting Shaquille O’Neal back not in the roster but maybe as an advisor or in the front office will surely bring in something better.
