Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley is a retired National Basketball Association player who is also a Hall of Famer and a legend known for his great skills near the rim. Now after retirement, Charles Barkley has stepped into the entertainment side of the league and other sports as he now is a successful analyst for NBA on TNT (Turner Network Television). He is a great player critic and the most honest person to say it without thinking twice as he picks many hot takes against NBA players every now and then. Recently, he made it to the headlines as appearing on “The Pivot Podcast” he opened up about his earlier take regarding the killing of Breonna Taylor which had many around upset. Sir Charles’ take basically meant that the situation is different from George Floyd’s one but many disagreed with it and wanted to defund the police.

Ryan questioned Charles Barkley that if possible would he want to change the things he said or mentioned about the unfortunate event. Replying to it Charles Barkley quoted: “Not at all number one it’s a shame that she got killed. Uh, that was really sad and unfortunate the point I was trying to make is her boyfriend did shoot the cops. I said wait a minute number one I am sorry the young lady got killed but you can’t compare that to the murder of George Floyd those are two different animals which I mean that’s the problem we have being black on television. Black people think we have to agree with them all the time I said wait a minute I am not going to agree with you all the time and if you get mad and you just get mad. I think that I am able to sit back make a conscientious smart objective like I say that man kneeling on that man for nine minutes they ain’t the same as the police coming and knocking on your door and your boyfriend shoots at the cops and it was really unfortunate and I don’t think you can compare the two and that was only the point I was trying to make. We can argue and debate right or wrong but it was wrong that she got killed but I say you can’t equate those two things.”

Charles Barkley first cleared what was the point he made back then and why was it sensible. He also mentioned how not being on social media his friends and family addressed him about a certain fraction of the black community which went crazy on him. But he also mentioned that there were people who came to his defense and came up to him on the streets to admire his point.

Many incidents over the past years involving police have made many innocents lose their lives. This has brought up the narrative of defunding them across the United States of America. Many believe it’s a fair decision and many don’t. Charles Barkley finds defunding the police as a foolish decision. As addressing the situation he quoted: “We need policemen. See, this is what frustrates me. You have these idiots and fools talking about ‘defund the police’ and everything. We as Black people, we need the police. Now, when they screw up, they need to be held accountable. They need to be held accountable and when they screw up because I tell you this, Ryan, Who are Black people supposed to call when we got crimes in our neighborhood? Ghostbusters?… You know who always gonna have cops white folks in a good neighborhood and for us to get out here like I said they need to be better we need to hold them accountable.”

Charles Barkley’s take surely is sensible and not wrong. As it makes complete sense while highlighting the crime and importance of police. So defunding them will never be a wise and good decision. Further, Charles Barkley also discussed equality and talked about black-on-black crime and where the community is lacking behind. He also addressed why and how the police have to do a better job of policing each other in the podcast.
