“Taken away all of the joy from life and basketball” Charles Barkley calls out Lakers to trade Russell Westbrook ASAP
Russell Westbrook is still receiving heavy doses of criticism despite having a fairly decent game last night against the Golden State Warriors. Even though he may not be as athletic or agile as before, the 9x All-Star point guard will still have a lesser role to play. But it simply seems as though he can do better on a different roster on a completely different team.
Charles Barkley for one has been constantly urging the Los Angeles Lakers to part ways with Russ. He said, “I think he needs a fresh start, I think the Lakers need a fresh start because they’re not contenders… But, I hate the fact that they have made him and Vogel scapegoats. This guy, man, I admire Russell Westbrook but they all taking his entire joy out of basketball and it pisses me off.”
Barkley’s argument is simply in support of the former MVP. Last season, there were certain instances where Russ barely needed to contribute or had no reason to be on the court aside from being a distraction. In Chuck’s case, Russell Westbrook is worth far more than what the Lakers have portrayed him to be and possesses the ability to contribute much more.
The Los Angeles Lakers crumble against the defending champions
The Lakers commenced their regular season journey last night going up against the defending champions Golden State Warriors. Obviously, the LA team was still trying to understand how to piece its roster together. Unfortunately, they wound up losing 123-109 to the Warriors.
LeBron James did a phenomenal job scoring 31 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out 8 perfect assists. Anthony Davis had 27 points showing promise that he can help direct the Lakers’ entire offense. Russell Westbrook recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds which was not all that bad for a season debut. However, the biggest issue from last night was committing 21 turnovers.
But it seems there is still confusion regarding Russ’ purpose on the team. League sources claim that the Lakers have reopened trade negotiations involving Brodie and a few future first-round picks. They claim that the Lakers will accept packages somewhere down line but it will take time for other teams to create viable deals.
