“This team can’t win a championship!” Charles Barkley claims Nets will lose games despite Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant’s heroics
Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal
Charles Barkley was brutally honest in his opinions regarding the Brooklyn Nets which now has both of their main players, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant playing for them regularly. Barkley had one opinion only, and he stick to it despite all of the discussions taking place in the Inside the NBA Show on NBA on TNT. Shaquille O’Neal was asked a question regarding the Nets’ thoughts after their tough close loss against the Boston Celtics, which were answered pretty convincingly by Shaq, but Chuck and Kenny seemed to entirely disagree with whatever was said, in fact, Chuck went to such lengths that it was almost tough for the panel to believe whatever he was saying.
The Panel on Inside the NBA sat down to discuss the Brooklyn Nets’ tough loss to the Boston Celtics and their path going forward from now after trailing 0-1 in the playoff series against their rivals. The discussion involved a plethora of opinions which were almost similar from each other, other than the opinion of one person who was completely “out of order” with whatever he said about the team that lost.
Charles Barkley went completely against Shaquille O’Neal in his arguments as he was supported by Kenny Smith to some extent in trying to convince the panel that the Brooklyn Nets couldn’t win the series against the Boston Celtics despite of all that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant could do.
Let us take a deeper dive into this conversation and find out all that Barkley had to say about the Nets, and their star players Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
Charles Barkley doesn’t think the Brooklyn Nets will win despite of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant’s heroics
The panel on inside the NBA was discussing the next move by the Brooklyn Nets after their close margin loss to the Celtics which was caused by Jayson Tatum’s heroics at the very end moment of the game after a pass from Marcus Smart. Shaquille O’Neal seemed optimistic about their future games in this series stating that the team could reassess, and then get back on court with the same intensity as the play-ins in order to get back on track of winning. Shaq also stated that the Nets weren’t really prepared for the surprise performance by Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Marcus Smart, therefore, resulting in their loss.
Kenny Smith disagreed with the statement that the performances by these players were a surprise or came out of the blue because this is what they had been like for the end stages of the regular season, therefore it should’ve been expected. Charles Barkley agreed to Smith’s statement and added his own points, most of which were very bold. Barkley stated that the way the team was built right now, they wouldn’t ever be able to win a championship, and he said it with confidence, to which the panel asked surprisingly if he was talking about the Nets, and he agreed.
Chuck then went on to say that for the Nets the chances of winning come in only when both Irving and Durant perform “GREAT”, not even good but specifically “GREAT”.

Chuck then went on to say that if any of them performed sub-par, like Durant’s performance against the Celtics despite a great performance by Irving, the team would lose, and the game 1 was a perfect example of what he meant. Barkley also stated that the team could only win a few games like that with both the players performing exceptionally well and because it required so many efforts, it wouldn’t last really long, therefore making it obvious that the team weren’t built to win a championship.
He stated that in comparison to the Nets, the Celtics were built fairly evenly and weren’t just dependent on one or two players in order to get the wins, which is the most important factor that would come in play in the series.
Let us now take a look at some of the reactions people had to Celtics winning the close, high intensity game against the Nets.
