The Boston Celtics fought exceptionally well and hard in the Eastern Conference Finals. After going down 3-0, they managed to force the Miami Heat to come as far as Game 7. However, Boston put up a rather disappointing show at home in Game 7. The Celtics struggled in the series decider as they were trounced by 19 points. Fans and critics were in absolute shock to watch the Celtics out of sync. Moreover, many even tore into the team, including analysts like Charles Barkley.
The Celtics shot at a shockingly low record of 23.7%. Miami, on the other hand, shot almost twice that number with a 50% accuracy. Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin put up 28 and 26 points, respectively. For Boston, Jaylen Brown put up 19 points, while Derrick White had 18 points. The drought in the Celtics’ stat line reflects their performance in Game 7. The score at the end of regulation was 103-84.
“Watching these dumba*s Celtics is making my head hurt,” Charles Barkley said as he started talking about the Boston Celtics at the half-time show. “It’s so bad to watch them play. I mean, there’s no ball movement, there’s no body movement and it’s just frustrating to watch a team with this much talent just play st*pid.”
Charles Barkley even spoke after the game to analyze what went wrong for the Celtics. “They just played bad basketball. They’re so undisciplined and un-fundamentally sound. They win games strictly on talent. They don’t even run an offense. That’s what disappointed me the most.”
Shaquille O’Neal also joined in on the analysis as he said, “Listen, they played what we refer to as hero ball.” He then said, “When they went 0-10 to start the game…0-12, that should have told them, ‘hey settle it down. Let’s get the pacing game back in our favor.'”
Who will the Miami Heat face in the NBA Finals?
The Miami Heat have now advanced to the NBA Finals after a 4-3 series win against the Celtics. Jimmy Butler has led his side to create history by being the second team to reach the NBA Finals after finishing the regular season as the eighth seed. Miami has been phenomenal in the postseason. Their run started with their win over the number one seed, the Milwaukee Bucks. However, after an intense seven-game series, the Heat will now face another number-one seed from the West; the Denver Nuggets.
The Denver Nuggets have shown sheer dominance in the 2022-23 NBA season. They finished the regular season at the number one spot, clinching the first seed. Nikola Jokic has been at the top of his game as he puts up historic numbers almost every game. Moreover, Jamal Murray has been an exceptional offensive asset for the Nuggets, making them a very well-rounded side.
It will be interesting to see how these two teams play in the NBA Finals. While the Heat make their second appearance in four years, the Nuggets are making their first. However, both Jimmy Butler and Nikola Jokic are playing for their first ring. Game 1 of the NBA Finals will be played on June 1st (US).
