Watch: Charles Barkley’s hilarious reaction on James Harden passing him on all-time scoring list leaves NBA on TNT panel laughing on the floor
Charles Barkley and James Harden
Charles Barkley had a hilarious reaction after getting to know that James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers surpassed him to take the 27th spot on the all-time leading scorer’s list. Harden, the star player for the Philadelphia 76ers, had just recently returned from his most recent injury absence but seems to be scripting history already
On Tuesday, James Harden needed just 14 more points to tie Barkley for 27th place on the record and 15 to take sole ownership of the spot going into the Sixers’ home game against the Sacramento Kings. Harden scored 21 points in the final period against the Kings while going 7 for 13 from the field. He got seven rebounds, five steals and a total of 15 assists in 36 minutes of play, he could have had more points if he hadn’t been so selfless.
Reacting to the news, Barkley said, “Russ is going to pass me too,” to which his co-hosts giggled and laughed and said, “You’re going down to the 30th spot.” Chuck further went on to thank Harden for the “Christmas gift” and said, “Thank you for the gifts but also congratulations on passing me.”
Barkley will soon witness another active NBA player surpass him on the list. As of Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook was only 98 points behind the former Sixers forward. Barkley’s advantage has shrunk to 78 points following Tuesday’s defeat to the Boston Celtics in Los Angeles thanks to Westbrook’s 20 points. In the coming weeks, Westbrook might be able to overtake Barkley on the list.
