“He would have a better chance of winning in Cleveland” Chris Broussard doubles down on Donovan Mitchell’s move to snub Knicks
Donovan Mitchell
Donovan Mitchell’s trade saga is finally over as he is now traded to Cleveland Cavaliers in a multi-player deal. Utah Jazz, open to trading their star guard received guard rookie wing Ochai Agbaji, Collin Sexton, and forward Lauri Markannen in the deal. The trade also includes three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps from Cleveland Cavaliers for Mitchell, sources tell ESPN. Throughout the summers, New York Knicks were strongly linked with the Donovan Mitchell trade, however, hard-to-please Utah Jazz general manager Danny Ainge was not too pleased with what the Knicks had to offer. Cleveland Cavaliers pushed hard and got their man in what can be considered an aggressive trade.
Though the whole NBA world was surprised by the ‘climax end’ to the Mitchell trade situation, NBA analyst Chris Broussard spoke highly of the same. In a recent episode of “The Odd Couple” podcast, he discussed Donovan Mitchell’s trade to the Cavs, and rather seemed happy with the decision.
Impressed with talented and young Cavs prospects, he stated that the move to Cleveland could be the right choice for Mitchell if compared to the Knicks. He said, “Let me start by saying this, he’s going to the Cavaliers, I think Rob basketball-wise for Donovan Mitchell, this is better.”
Explaining his views Broussard added, “He’s on a better team, Darius Garland who is an All-Star, will team up with him in a great backcourt, Evan Mobley who was one of the great rookies last year, he looks like he’ll be a star and Jarrett Allen had a fantastic year for what he is, I mean he was an All-Star.”
Looking at the bright future for the player and franchise, the 53-year-old analyst commented, “So they are really building something potentially special in Cleveland and I just think he’s got a better chance of winning there than he would have in New York.”
The NBA side might finally have landed a superstar for their championship aspirations.
How well can Donovan Mitchell better the Cleveland Cavaliers team?
In the 2022 regular season, Cleveland Cavaliers were a surprise team contending for the playoffs. Even they made some mid-season trades to make solid efforts in the playoffs, but sadly finished 9th and lost to Atlanta Hawks in a play-in game. But their resurgence was an encouraging sign for Cavs fans, who missed the postseason for the last 4 seasons. And now the addition of ever-consistent Donovan Mitchell will certainly be a very positive step to re-establish themselves as a playoff team.
The Cleveland Cavaliers had to trade Collin Sexton, Lauri Markannen, and Ochair Agbaji as part of the deal. Though all the above-mentioned players were vital in their 2022 season performance, the addition of Mitchell will be a huge upgrade for them. Mitchell is not only a prolific scorer but playing him alongside Darius Garland would make the team from Cleveland a tough side to contend with.
Age-wise Donovan Mitchell fits perfectly in Cleveland’s system. He is only 25 years old and has huge playoff experience. He also has made three All-Star appearances. He was a key part of the Utah Jazz’s threatening offense.
Ball dominant Mitchell is a dependable scorer and the team can rely on him to rack up high-volume points. He has a whole range of shots and can shoot from mid-range and even effectively from the range. He might lack defensive prowess, but the Cavs would work on the same along with Mitchell.
A young team and fresh approach would certainly help Mitchell to revive his already glowing career, while the Cavs can use explosive Mitchell to out-score opponents.
