“He is not as big a diva as LeBron James” Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo believes Kevin Durant has lost all his goodwill
Chris Russo On Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant was heavily targeted for his recent actions. His trade request was shocking enough that he went one step ahead and tried to force his way out of the Brooklyn Nets to win an absurd request. KD looks desperate for the move before training sessions and after waiting for nearly a month, he presented team owners with a seemingly difficult condition. NBA pundits and even fans have come down hard on Kevin Durant for this latest request. Radio show host and NBA analyst Chris Russo even called Durant a phony and said he has lost all his goodwill after hearing the details of the meeting.
Durant ended up giving an ultimatum in the face-to-face meeting. KD said the only way he would return is if Coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks are not with the franchise anymore. Nets owner Tsai quickly responded with support to his staff, and also made it public over social media.
The subject went out of hand with never heard before the request from KD. Analyst Russo originally believed KD would rescind his trade request in the meet. But with the recent developments, many can expect Durant to sit out for the whole season, if not traded.
Chris Russo makes a huge claim about Kevin Durant, which might hamper his trade value also.
2-time NBA champion and skillful Kevin Durant was on everyone’s wish list. But no one could make a concrete move with Brooklyn Nets’ high demands. The franchise is looking for multiple future picks with a minimum of 3 All-Star caliber players. That would put any team in a possibly difficult situation with no future assured, and only Durant playing for them may be with remaining rotational pieces.
Durant is quite aware of the situation and hence took such an uncharacteristic stand. It will defiantly force the Nets to settle for a lower value if they wish to continue with their staff and trade Kevin Durant. But on “Mad Dog’s Daily Bite,” Russo did not hide his disappointment over KD’s approach. The sports analyst lashed out at KD, revisiting the two-time champion’s past mistakes
Russo said, “Durant has lost all his goodwill. It’s as simple as that. I used to like Durant. He’s a wonderful player to watch. He’s fun to watch. He plays hard. He loves to play. There’s a lot of Durant that I like. It is not as much a diva, at least as LeBron (James) could be, but I’m off that now.”
After praising a bit, the 62-year-old makes a bold statement reminding KD of his past, as he said, “This is a complete phony. He bailed out of Golden State. Well, off first he bailed out of Oklahoma City ’cause he couldn’t beat Golden State. He joined the team that had won 73 games, which is a disgrace. Then, he left Golden State, which I was OK with, but he joined forces with Kyrie (Irving), that nutcase, to come here.”
Durant’s move to Golden State Warriors was already the subject of criticism in the past. But KD did deliver Championship, rather in a dominant manner for them, and even won 2 Finals MVP awards in the process. But to answer his critics and make his own superteam, KD decided to join hands with fellow megastar Kyrie Irving at the Nets.
Commenting on the Nets situation, New York-born Russo explains his views, “And now it’s been a complete disaster. And now he doesn’t like where it ends up a year after he signs a mega-contract. Now, he demands that the head coach, who did nothing wrong, and the GM, who’s done everything in his power to placate these two idiots, now he wants them out if he wants to come back.”
Though the details of the meeting are out and many would expect other teams to pounce on the ‘low value’ opportunity, there have been no reports of teams calling for Durant. But Durant might have changed his preferences to Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, citing their roster and feasibility of the trade. We will have to wait again for further developments, but Russo’s assessments can’t be ignored for sure.
