“I should be No. 1,” Nic Claxton demands NBA award him 2022-23 Season DPOY for single-handedly “anchoring” Nets defenses

Nic Claxton spent his first three seasons being prepared to take over as the Brooklyn Nets’ future starting center. He has improved Brooklyn’s defense and established a strong case for Defensive Player of the Year consideration. Nic is the Net’s starting center and is having a breakout season. According to Basketball-Reference, he is second in defensive rating (106.7) and leads the NBA in field goal percentage (.732) and block percentage (8.2).
As Nic Claxton was asked, “When you look at the Defensive Player of the Year conversation, where do you think you fit in?” The player replied, “I think I should be No. 1. I’m defending one through five and neck and neck as the leading shot blocker. I’m doing everything on the defensive end for the team anchoring the defense every single night. I think I should be right there. Definitely.”
After winning 12 consecutive games the Brooklyn Nets have now lost four of their last six games. They have gone 0-3 since star forward Kevin Durant was sidelined with a knee injury for about a month. The Nets are surely getting off track without their star player and need their other two stars Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons to take over now when they play Pheonix Suns on Thursday.
Nic Claxton is someone the Nets will seriously consider keeping by their side especially due to his defensive capabilities. Now that they still have Simmons trying to figure out a way to produce more, having a backup such as their starting center is a very safe option.
Kyrie Irving may extend his deal with the Brooklyn Nets to play alongside Nic Claxton, Kevin Durant, and Ben Simmons

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving’s rumored reunion in Los Angeles may have to wait. After many predicted Irving would be dealt to the LA Lakers in the offseason, discussions intensified as Irving’s off-court scandal increased earlier this year.
When Kevin Durant got hurt during their game against the Miami Heat, it stopped their momentum. The unnamed NBA executive predicted Irving’s upcoming transfer to HoopsHype and stated, “I think Kyrie ends up with a short extension with the Nets. A sign-and-trade for Kyrie this summer would be tough given the length needed and assets to make it happen from another team. I think there’s an incentive for an extension on a one-plus-one or two-year deal.”
He continued, “If I’m Brooklyn, I’m not going past two years. I don’t know if Kyrie would accept that. The Lakers will go into the summer with cap space and can offer two years, $60 million, where he could rejoin LeBron James and play with Anthony Davis.”
