Coach K is trending in the basketball world as he is named Special Adviser to NBA Basketball Operations. The former Blue Devils Coach left Duke after a heartfelt farewell season in 2022, but it looks like he is not yet done with the game of basketball with this recent selection for the position.
Coach K has always been a respected person in the realm of basketball, especially earning the respect of players and coaches alike. This recent resurface from Coach K sparks speculations from NBA fans that he might go to higher operational positions after this.
Bryon Spruell the NBA president of League Operations said, “We are honoured to have Coach K join the NBA family. … He is uniquely suited to drive discussions and offer insights about the present and future of the NBA.”
Overall, this decision by the winningest coach in college history and Former Olympic Gold Medal Coach is well received by everyone as we can finally see Coach K outside the realms of college basketball and see him work his way into the NBA world. This news also comes as a shock to some people as he had rejected several coaching jobs from NBA teams in the past.
Coach K has a long history of winning both at college and international levels. He led Duke University to 5 national titles, 13 final fours (the most by any coach), 15 ACC tournament championships, and 13 ACC regular season titles and was the head Coach for the 3 USA Olympic Gold medal Teams of 2008(Beijing), 2012 (London), 2016 (Rio de Janeiro).
He was inducted into the college basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He also produced top NBA talents like Jayson Tatum, Brandon Ingram, JJ Redick and Rj Barrett from his Duke program.
