Colin Cowherd talks about Kyrie Irving reunion with LeBron James
Sports analyst Colin Cowherd has gone onto scrutinise the Kyrie Irving-to-Los Angeles Lakers trade rumor and predicts that is a deliberate attempt by LeBron James to have things in his way and to perhaps even protect the legacy of the Nets marquee.
After the conclusion of the 2022 season, many eyes were on the “former contender” teams to make upgrades in their roaster for next season. The top 2 teams were Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets, former couldn’t make it to the playoffs, while the latter had an early exit from the postseason. Now as per rumors, both the teams are looking to be involved in a trade that would send Nets star Kyrie Irving to Los Angeles Lakers. Particularly after Irving and the Brooklyn Nets are at a crossroads over his contract extension reported. Colin Cowherd is not “buying” the rumors though as he digs deep into the rumors.
The reunion of former Champion teammates LeBron James and Kyrie Irving seems very natural after a disastrous season, but 58-years old analyst sees a ‘hidden’ agenda in the rumors. As per him, the rumors are spread purposefully and may not be true.

Kyrie Irving missed the majority of the season and the Nets are reportedly uncertain about offering him an extension. If the situation cannot be resolved, Irving, one of the NBA’s best point guards, can decline his player option, making him a free agent this summer. After the most probable outcome of the discussion between Nets and mega star points toward the possible departure of the 30-year-old guard. The rumors have already started to circulate, as many consider a potential reunion between Irving and James with the LA Lakers.
Sports analyst Colin Cowherd said he thinks James doesn’t forget that Irving once left him before and thinks the leaked rumors are getting out on purpose. Cowherd said, “LeBron doesn’t have any love lost with Kyrie,”
On his show – “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” Cowherd pointed out that James has always understood the working of the league and how to win Championships. Washington-born analyst smells some rotten feelings behind rumors, as he suggested that the Lakers’ rumored interest might be a way for the Nets to panic and re-sign Irving.
In reality, if reports are believed, former rookie of the year Irving is connected to several different teams. ESPN reported that Irving presented Brooklyn with a list of six teams for a sign-and-trade. Those teams are the Lakers, LA Clippers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Dallas Mavericks.
But keeping him at the Nets, after his poor attitude toward the game, would put the team back in scum. And Kevin Durant might miss another season searching for a Championship, which would hold 4-time NBA Champion LeBron James above slim reaper in the league. Also, Kyrie will be without a Championship – and remain on 1 championship he won with LeBron James.
If Kyrie moves from the Nets, it is expected that Durant will challenge the Championship with another team. As per Colin, LeBron wouldn’t want to leave things uncertain and will try to keep Irving at the Nets – when things are sour between the two.
Cowherd suggests that, even though the Nets have 3 superstars on their team, 2 of them are not serious about “winning”, the team has no deep bench, and Coach Steve Nash hasn’t delivered any positive signs of Masterclass coaching. So Nets wouldn’t be the same team next season with Irving on the roster.
Whatever may be the reasons behind rumors, it kept everyone excited to see the new “super team” at the Lakers and even the Nets getting some fresh air from the Kyrie situation.
