“I look at him the same way I look at Cryptocurrency” Colin Cowherd questions if Kyrie Irving is a worthy investment for Brooklyn Nets

“I look at him the same way I look at Cryptocurrency” Colin Cowherd questions if Kyrie Irving is a worthy investment for Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn Nets just haven’t been the team to challenge for the championship with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant leading the troop. With some or the other problem always lingering within the organisation, Irving in particular has found it tough to shine. This has made sports media personality Colin Cowherd quite critical upon his take on the same player ahead of the start of 2022-23 season.

After a clean sweep against Boston Celtics, Kyrie Irving had to face most of the criticism. He did play well in Game 1 but was rather ineffective after that. He is currently one of the biggest topics of conversation as the Brooklyn Nets might be reconsidering extending Irving’s stay. He continues to appear in headlines as we approach the offseason. Currently, the All-Star guard and Brooklyn Nets are at an impasse in contract discussions that could lead to Irving testing his luck in the market.

Due to various reasons, the star point guard only appeared in 29 games for the Nets in the regular season and posted averages of 27.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 5.8 APG. Recently, FS1’s Colin Cowherd gave his take on the ongoing discussions between Kyrie Irving and the Nets. Accepting the star power and talent Kyrie has, Colin feels the star guard is too unreliable to heavily invest in.

Colin Cowherd feels that “Kyrie Irving might be a bad investment”

Kyrie Irving when drafted by the Cavs proved to be the most dynamic point guard in the league. Efficient ball handling and effective shooting made him an instant star in Cleveland. He won the 2012 Rookie of the year award. Then again he went on to deliver Cleveland’s 1st NBA title in 2016 with LeBron James and co. His resume is very strong and his abilities are unquestionable. But “trust” and “reliability” are some major issues that prevent him to be a profitable investment.

Colin Cowherd reacted to the situation, “I look at Kyrie Irving sort of like I look at cryptocurrency. There is no real data to indicate it’s a great investment. Lot of speculation, highly turbulant, rarely reliable, and what does it really get me?”

Aged at 30, Kyrie is still in his prime and may demand a sizeable contract. That being said, should the Brooklyn Nets be the team to give it to him. Especially with recent seasons, Kyrie’s claim for the MAX contract would be under a microscope.Important for the Nets would be to watch Kevin Durant and his reactions to the Irving situation. He and Irving came to the Nets together because of their connection off the court and in order to bring some glory to the franchise.

As Kyrie Irving was seen as lesser on the court, he has become a bit of a wildcard in the eyes of the NBA community. So Cowherd’s claim for uncertainty around Kyrie’s contract can’t be denied. So, as much as we don’t like Kyrie Irving’s unpredictability, his skills more than warrant an extension… It would be wiser for the franchise to give one last shot at the championship with the Superstar duo when they have added defensive mega star, Ben Simmons, to the team.
