“You already invested in Bitcoin and it made you rich” Colin Cowherd slams 2xNBA Champion for running after Donovan Mitchell once again
Colin Cowherd talks negatively about Danny Ainge trading Donovan Mitchell
Utah Jazz shocked the NBA world as they decided to move to the rebuild phase allowing some of their impactful players to leave in exchange for future picks. The move was considered to overcome continuous failure in postseasons. Newly appointed Danny Ainge is said to be pulling strings for various deals to make Jazz competitive again in near future. After delivering 3 Championships for Boston Celtics as a player and Executive, Ainge feels that Jazz needs a complete makeover to win the title. But Collin cowherd trashed the idea of moving Donovan Mitchell in the process.
Jazz pulled a mega deal trading Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves, and are said to be shopping for Donovan Mitchell also. After landing Jalen Brunson in free agency, the New York Knicks find themselves in the mix to acquire a Jazz youngster. But acquiring Mitchell won’t be easy. The Knicks have to deal with Utah CEO of basketball operations Danny Ainge, who famously never walks away from a deal empty-handed.
On his show, “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd said Ainge shouldn’t be urged to fleece New York because of the massive haul the Utah Jazz received for All-Star center Rudy Gobert. Cowherd said, “Danny Ainge did so well fleecing the T-Wolves that I don’t think he needs to fleece another team and get six draft picks. Let’s say you invested in Bitcoin, and it made you rich. You don’t really need to take another big gamble on something. You could do safer investments.”
Since the Jazz already received multiple players and picks in exchange for Gobert, the Jazz has very much control of their future. Cowherd feels that Jazz can keep Mitchell.
Will moving Donovan Mitchell help Utah Jazz build a strong team?
25-year-old star guard Donovan Mitchell spent all his 5 seasons with Utah Jazz. He won 3 All-star appearances and helped the Jazz team to be the most consistent one in the competitive West. But even with some superstars on the team, Jazz failed to close out a strong season with any silverware. This forced the Jazz to go for rebuild mode.
Following Rudy Gobert’s mega trade to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the indication seemed to be that Jazz CEO Danny Ainge was going to tear down the roster and begin a long-term rebuild. He has Mitchell as the only tradable megastar and teams like New York Knicks are also showing interest in the prospect of landing talented youngster. Things appear to have stalled out between the two sides, with steep prize set by the Jazz.
But interestingly The Jazz doesn’t need to be in a hurry to get a deal done. Louisville prodigy still has three more guaranteed years left on his contract. So Jazz has the liberty to drag things out until the trade deadline and get maximum returns for their prized asset. But importantly will trading Mitchell help Jazz build a strong team in the future?
Well, Jazz had shown their abilities in the regular season, constantly making it to the playoffs without much hustle. But Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were two important pieces of their impressive run. Son trading both those stars would put the Jazz in an elongated rebuilt phase. Rather if they can build around Mitchell, since the French star is already traded, the Utah franchise has better chances of making a strong push in the near future.
But then trading Mitchell would almost certainly bring back a significant return to the Jazz. He has averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his first five seasons. And if the Jazz is ok with the long wait, then it would be a good option to trade their pick in 1-2 trade windows. We will get to see the plans of a former executive of the year Danny Ainge and how they will affect Jazz’s future.
