“Russell Westbrook goes out at any cost” Colin Cowherd suggests a Knicks-Lakers-Jazz trade could prove beneficial for each team

Los Angeles Lakers are said to be stuck with Russell Westbrook. They are unable to get rid of his heavy contract without involving any of their future picks. The team is not willing to get to any of 1st round picks, as they have very limited assets going past the 2023 season. But we move deeper into the offseason, trade news surrounding most teams, including the LA Lakers, continues to emerge. A new report though has a positive sign for the Lakers, at least as per NBA analyst Collin Cowherd.
An interesting and never thought before trade news surfaces, as the Lakers, Knicks, and Jazz engage in discussion for the same. On “The Herdline News,” Cowherd approves the exciting deal that gets every team what they want. He further assesses every piece for the teams involved, and how they would fit perfectly in the given situation.
Colin Cowherd sees a lot of positives for the Los Angeles Lakers, and other teams involved in the trade discussions.
Trades are not always a win-win situation for all. One team sees benefits from the trade, while the other team settles in for better options. As per the latest reports, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and Utah Jazz are in discussion for a 3-team trade, involving Donovan Mitchell, Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverly, and a host of future picks.
As per the rumors, the Jazz is willing to part ways with Donovan Mitchell for some future picks, and the Knicks and Lakers are ready for the same, provided that they get a solution for their “problems”. Since the start of the offseason, the Lakers have been finding a way to trade Russell Westbrook. They have had several conversations with the Brooklyn Nets regarding Kyrie Irving, but the deal was stalled over some draft pick inclusions.
As for the Knicks, they want to add an All-star caliber player, making them instant favorites for the title in the 2023 season. And the Utah Jazz has embraced a rebuild. They traded Rudy Gobert for several Future picks and will give Donovan Mitchell away as long as the deal is right.
So in the deal discussed, Jazz will be receiving 7-8 future picks and Russell Westbrook for their star, while the Lakers will receive Patrick Beverley, and either Jordan Clarkson, Bogdanovic, or Malik Beasley. Also, New Yorkers will finally get Donovan Mitchell.
Reacting to the trade, 58-year-old analyst Cowherd said, “Here’s why it makes sense. The Knicks do want Donovan Mitchell, the Lakers want Russell Westbrook out at any cost, and Danny Ainge wants draft picks. So, all three teams get what they want.”
“When you have a three-team proposition and everybody gets what they want. Utah gets the picks, Knicks get the star, and the Lakers get out of Westbrook’s deal that makes sense. That’s exciting.”
Surprisingly, the proposed trade involving all three teams will give every team what they desire. However, it does not help the Lakers become immediate contenders – like the Kyrie trade.
How can Los Angeles Lakers take advantage of the situation?
Los Angeles Lakers are looking to add some star players around their 2020 championship pair LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But dumping a failed-experiment Westbrook has been their main problem. Basically, his $47 million salary was a huge problem for them. So, if they can get that huge amount off-their books will be a win for the Lakers.
But in addition, they will have hard fighting defender and always ready for playoffs, Patrick Beverley, and also a shooter in Bogdanovic or Clarkson. They can use the ‘saved’ money on another player in free agency, as they are heavily reliant on the current crop of free agents to build a strong team.
The Lakers are putting all their trust in Anthony Davis. With LeBron’s future still to be resolved, Team is looking to have young players and a contender team to lure LBJ for an extension. The team built through the aforementioned deal looks like a playoff team while playing against strong Western teams might be a huge task for them.
