Damian Lillard is back in the NBA headlines and like always the reason isn’t him finally being available in the market. He has stayed loyal to the Portland Trailblazers and the story remains the same. But unfortunately, he has had no good success with the organization and the biggest reason behind it is the organization itself. As they have always failed to build a good roster around Damian Lillard or land a solid superstar to help him out.
But now Damian Lillard has taken the matter into his hands and once again is recruiting superstars to the Blazers via Internet. And, this time on the other end is 2×MVP, DPOY, FMVP and NBA champion, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Earlier Dame tried to recruit Kevin Durant via Instagram and, we know how bad that aged. But this time Damian Lillard hinted at his wish of teaming up with Greek Freak via Twitter.
During Game 5 of Round 1, Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat pulled down the curtains on Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Milwaukee Bucks after a tough battle that even went to overtime. And, the Heat won the game at 128-126 and now have advanced to the Conference Semifinals to face the New York Knicks. The last quarter messed it up for the Bucks and even after all the efforts put in by Giannis and company, Playoffs Jimmy got the job done and gave an opportunity to Damian Lillard to recruit Giannis Antetokounmpo.
As after the game ended, Damian Lillard retweeted a photoshopped image of him and Giannis Antetokounmpo donning a Blazers jersey. This shook the basketball world for a while. As if the Blazers can land Giannis Antetokounmpo, the duo of his and Damian Lillard would be lethal and destroy the league. But the road to land him isn’t easy as just like Dame even he’s loyal to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Can Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers land Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo?
Giannis Antetokounmpo is under contract with the Bucks for two more seasons at least. And, he also has a player option for the 2025-26 season which will bring him to the market in 2026. But obviously, he can opt for a trade, as the organization putting a superstar like him on the market isn’t a very possible option. But even if any of this happens the Blazers still do not have any good assets which can land Greek Freak and fulfill Damian Lillard’s wish.
A possibility to land Giannis Antetokounmpo exists only if they are offering a generational talent in the package to make it a fair deal. And, the Blazers can only pull this off if they are able to get Victor Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson in the coming draft. As they hold top-five odds in the 2023 NBA Draft. But nothing can be said about the Bucks’ management as the chances of them rejecting any star-studded or talented package is real. As Giannis Antetokounmpo is right now considered the best player on earth by many and he’s improving every season.
So Damian Lillard’s wish once again has solid chances of going unheard by the Blazers’ management. His dream of teaming up with Greek Freak is going to stay a dream for a while or maybe forever. But miracles do happen and the Blazers’ fans can pray and hope for one.
