The Damian Lillard trade chronicle has finally ended. He has been traded to the Milwaukee Bucks where he will be playing alongside 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. While many analysts, players and fans gave their opinion on the trade, Lillard was tight-lipped about it. However, he talked about the trade to Gilbert Arenas via texts. Arenas shared Lillard’s thought in his recent podcast,
Lillard stated he was extremely happy to join the Bucks. He added that he felt that this trade will help people realize how good he actually is and that he is at the top of the league. His exact words were, “I think it will finally come to light that I’m one of those guys at the very top. They have discredited me for years without acknowledgment, how I was never on even close to even playing field with everybody else.”
His statements do have some basis to them. Despite averaging 30+ points in the regular season last year, he wasn’t considered top in the league simply because his teammates weren’t good enough to lead Portland to wins.
Now that he is with the Bucks, fans can hope that he will find more success there. The Lillard-Antetokounmpo pairing is considered championship worthy by most. Along with a better team, Lillard will also get more TV coverage now that he is in Milwaukee. Hopefully fans are able to recognize the true extent of Lillard’s greatness before it extinguishes.

Things became quite messy between Lillard and the Trail Blazers management in the month leading up to his trade. There was a lot of back-and-forth between the two and reports of double-dealings have been uncovered.
Despite all that, Lillard, who was with the Trail Blazers for 11 seasons, was still quite emotional about his departure. On his twitter account, he penned a long farewell letter in which he thanked the city of Portland and all those who assisted him along his journey.
Lillard ended his letter with, “I do believe a day will come when I put a Blazers uniform on again, and hopefully by then I’ll be forgiven for breaking your hearts along with my own.” His fans are quite upset that he left their city but are happy to see him with a team that might finally help him win his championship. Lillard now begins a new chapter of his career. What it will bring for him, only time can tell.
