“I’m going to the Lakers” – Damian Lillard ‘reveals’ offseason plan during an Instagram live video

Damian Lillard

It is that time of the year for Damian Lillard when he’s thrown around on every possible trade rumour that never bore any real fruition. Damian Lillard in his 12th season in the NBA remains to be one of the most sought-after players in the league attracting teams with tradeable assets.

Dame went on an IG live recently and said: ”Where you going this summer?’ They want me to be like… I’m going to the Lakers.” turns out Dame wasn’t too serious about the Lakers as he was laughing through the whole ordeal and was visibly seen to be just joking around.

Even though Dame might just be joking around, a trade to the Lakers is still in the realm of possibility as the Lakers have enough assets to match the Blazers’ interest. A trade package of D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura and the Lakers’ valuable 2029 first-round pick would have to be given up in order to get a player of Lillard’s calibre. With this trade, the Blazers would get youth and a perfect head start for a rebuild and the Lakers would get a win-now player who provided much-needed shooting and offense for the Lakers.

The Blazers recently got the 3rd pick in the 2023 draft lottery which could possibly land them Scoot Henderson, with the arrival of new talent a possible franchise player it is more likely that Damian Lillard would request a trade sooner rather than later.

Can Blazers LAND Scoot Henderson?

The Blazers landed the third overall pick in this year’s NBA draft lottery after having yet another underwhelming season failing to make the playoffs behind an aging Damian Lillard.

Victor Wembanyama is set to be picked first by the San Antonio Spurs but the tricky part comes whether the Charlotte Hornets would pick Scoot Henderson, Cam Whitmore or Brandon Miller with their second pick. Fit-wise Brandon Miller would be the best option to pair alongside Lamelo Ball but talent wise Scoot is the second-best player of the entire draft class this year. If the Hornets select Miller the Blazers would be next in line for Scoot Henderson if the Bulls decides not to trade up to the draft.

The Blazers would have the option of keeping the guard to pair with Dame or center a trade package around him to get a win-now superstar to help Dame make a Championship push in the West. Although several sources have claimed that the Blazers would trade away Scoot it is much more likely that the organization would like to keep Scoot. The 6’2 guard in his first season with Ignite, averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.67 steals in 21 appearances, he ranked second on the team in assists (89).

With few years left of prime from Dame a rebuild centered around Scoot Henderson would be of the best scenarios the Blazers can hope for as they can get back into contention in a few years if they decided to shop Dame and get back more picks and pieces to create a younger core much similar to the Pelicans and Grizzlies.
