Dan Patrick has made it to the NBA headlines as he recently gave the NBA world another what if…? take to ride with. This one makes sense and honestly can be one of the best from the many takes the fans have to debate around. It includes Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley. As Dan Patrick on his podcast sitting alongside Nick Wright claimed that both Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal could have been much better than what they are known for today. Both players are without a doubt considered in the elite list of the game as they really are great and have legendary Hall of Fame careers.
Shaquille O’Neal won four championships in the league and is still regarded as the most dominant force ever seen. But his laziness took away a big part of his greatness which we’ll never have a chance to admire. On the other hand, Charles Barkley called it a done deal being ring-less as he was unfortunate on multiple occasions of getting himself a run to the NBA Finals. But there’s no doubt to it that if both these Hall of Famers worked a little harder and made some smart decisions they would have been in the G.O.A.T conversation. And that’s exactly what was pointed out by Dan Patrick on his show “The Dan Patrick Show”.
Charles Barkley is without a doubt one of the best forwards to ever play the game and his paint skillset with rebounding skills are inhuman. But still, he is discredited from many conversations because of a simple reason of him not ending up on the fortunate winning side. Shaquille O’Neal though is the greatest center in the history of the game but still isn’t considered in the G.O.A.T conversation because he messed up a bit on his way to becoming the greatest. The story is also very same for Charles Barkley and Dan Patrick claiming them to be much better is fair and right as that’s nothing but facts.

Dan Patrick after discussing the greats of the game with Nick Wright went onto have a chat about Charles Barkley where he quoted: “There’s part of me that looks at Charles the way I do Shaq, that he could have been so much greater. It’s not fair to say that about Charles at 6’4-6’5 power forward. But I do look at him with that talent, and I think he could have been so much better, and I look at Shaq the same way.”
Further Nick Wright added: “He [O’Neal] could have been the greatest ever.” And the host Dan Patrick agreed to it. The take honestly is very sensible and even both the players personally know it all. As they have agreed to it and even gave out their words on it on multiple occasions in the past. The G.O.A.T conversation would have been really different if Chuck and Shaq were included but unfortunately, we’ll live without it.
