D’Angelo Russell to the Mavericks? Kyrie Irving’s potential trade to Lakers dealt ANOTHER BLOW
Kyrie Irving is going to have a tough time trying to find a way into the Lakers squad after latest updates on a potential trade.
D'Angelo Russell and Kyrie Irving
The Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks are battling to have the 31-year-old Kyrie Irving in their squad. Yes, a 31-year-old player, who has lately been involved in more controversies than games played, is a name these two teams are highly contending for. With the potential destinations boiling down to only two, Irving still remains in treacherous waters with no final destination yet. His courtside presence at the Lakers games and other tactics have done no good.
The Dallas Mavericks are adamant on retaining Kyrie Irving in their squad and no strategy will let them go of their star. With analysts suggesting various potential trades and deals, the Mavericks are only interested in the one where they have Irving on their side. The most recent denied trade offer was the one with D’Angelo Russell.
Per NBA Correspondent Marc Stein, The Mavericks have no interest in Kyrie’s sign-and-trade with the Lakers that would bring back D’Angelo Russell. Stein said, “All indications are that the Mavericks remain intent on re-signing Irving.” None of this comes as a surprise to NBA Fans who have been following the trade talks intently. A potential trade of Kyrie Irving with D’Angelo Russell as the primary return sounds like a bigger loss than any.
While Irving and the team didn’t make it to the playoffs, Russell’s abysmal performance in the playoffs is bound to have shooed the Mavericks away. Given the state of the Lakers’ squad where they want to retain two of their young stars, Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves. They’re going to have a tough time navigating through this.

What are Kyrie Irving’s intentions? Is he leaning toward the Mavericks or the Lakers?
While his presence courtside of Lakers’ games said otherwise, Kyrie Irving seems intent on staying with the Mavericks while extracting the biggest money deal possible. A source has indicated that prior to the trade between the Brooklyn Nets and the Mavericks, there existed a verbal agreement between Irving and the Mavericks. This agreement was reportedly established with the understanding that Irving’s commitment was conditional upon being offered a maximum contract.
If Irving decides to re-sign with the team, the Dallas Mavericks could present him with a significant contract extension valued at $272 million over a five-year period. This considerable offer is made possible by a salary cap of $134 million.
But are the Mavericks willing to suffer that big of a blow? This is a question fans ask; therefore, to ensure that he gets paid, Irving is bringing every trick out of the book! Though his final destination still isn’t confirmed, many speculate it is going to be the Mavericks. Stay tuned for more updates!
