Danny Ainge plays a very important role in the success of the Boston Celtics for the past two decades. He’s responsible for many key trades, picks, and exchanges the Celtics have been a part of. But he retired as the Boston Celtics’ President of Basketball Operations in 2021. And, now is back in the headlines for a take of his on Ime Udoka and Joe Mazulla.
Danny Ainge’s retirement from the Celtics and move to become the CEO of Basketball Operations and Alternate Governor of Utah Jazz created space that was filled by Brad Stevens, HC of the team. And, with him moving a spot up in the front office, Ime Udoka was hired as the new HC, and after a successful season, the Cs fired him. As he maintained an improper intimate relationship with a female staff member and also made unwanted comments to her.
After he got fired, the Celtics made Joe Mazulla the new head coach of the team. And, now after the Cs got eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Miami Heat, Dant Ainge believes Joe Mazulla is better than Ime Udoka. As recently Ainge defended his friend after the negative rumors about the team giving up on the HC made it to the headlines.
Danny Ainge backing Joe Mazulla and the Celtics up quoted: “I know Joe. I hired Joe four or five years ago to work in our G League. I still cheer for my friends. Also, I don’t think the team quit on Joe. There was pretty good evidence they did not quit on the coach. I just think they weren’t playing well. The team’s overall confidence struggled after the comeback wins against Philly, which was really the highlight of the season.”
Danny Ainge even gave the Miami Heat team its well-deserved flowers. But then went on to take an unnecessary shot on Ime Udoka who recently has been hired by the Houston Rockets. As he quoted: “They were inconsistent, but they were rooting for each other. They were all defending Joe in the media. You see Joe’s toughness and stubbornness. He’s a relentless worker. He has a passion to learn. Joe is a leader, and I think this was a difficult situation with the high expectations the team had coming in. I don’t think there’s anybody there that doesn’t believe that Joe is better than Ime [Udoka] as a coach.”

The fans didn’t let Danny Ainge’s claim slide anywhere. As not many ride with his claim of Joe Mazulla is better than Ime Udoka. Joe is surely a talented coach and can run the franchise but Ime was at another level as he turned things around for the Celtics after good 2 months into the season and even led them to the NBA Finals. So the fans are clowning the former Celtics, Danny Aingeby bringing his family and Ime Udoka’s controversial and disappointing actions to the conversation. Danny Ainge should now probably stick with the Utah Jazz and make moves to make them a better team. While Ime Udoka is back in the league and will be looking to turn the tables around at the Houston Rockets who are rebuilding and aim to be in contention as soon as possible. The Boston Celtics though are going to have a tough off-season with hard decisions to be made about the coaching staff and players.
