“There’s no need for us to feel sorry for ourselves” Darvin Ham gives an HONEST assessment of Lakers’ 2nd half mishap going 2-7 for the season

“There’s no need for us to feel sorry for ourselves” Darvin Ham gives an HONEST assessment of Lakers’ 2nd half mishap going 2-7 for the season

The 2nd half trouble does not seem to go away for the Lakers this season. They scored 36 points, in the 3rd and 4th quarters combined against the Cleaveland Cavaliers. Lakers’ coach Darvin Ham looked far from happy with the team’s performance. The game against Cavs also brought out another problem that the Lakers had in the 2nd half, and that was Anthony Davis not being able to get some good buckets and increase the score for their end. Davis scored 19 points of which 17 came in the first half.

Talking to the reporters, Ham told that the Cavaliers are a talented ball club with “extremely talented players”, he continued, “They are not gonna feel sorry for us, so there is no need for us to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to plow through good bad and different.” Ham sounded pretty upset when asked about Anthony Davis not getting looks in the 2nd half. “I don’t know, I mean that he is definitely a focal point but you know these guys are not rookies”.

Talking to the media after the game other players like LeBron and Russell Westbrook also had their opinions about Davis and their slump in the 2nd half. “We just didn’t come out ready (in the second half),” Westbrook said. “We were playing catch-up.” Darvin Ham however thought that other factors played in Davis getting fewer touches in the game. He said, “We have a playbook, we have a menu and a bunch of sets where AD can be featured. You have to be organized, slow down… and get what you want.

The loss against Cavs is the Lakers’ 7th loss in 9 games this season. One of the two wins came in overtime, which clearly shows Lakers are far from being in contention for top teams in the West. The Lakers have their next game on Monday against Utah Jazz whom they lost by 130-116 when they met last time.

Coach Darvin Ham called out the Lakers’ bench for not stepping up to the challenge. Talking to the media about their performances Ham said, “guys like Kendrick, guys like Austin, Matt, Juan Toscano all these guys… they got to step up and help out big dogs.” Nunn started for the Lakers against the Cavs but was 0 for 5 and scored 0 points. Austin Reaves attempted just two shots in the entire game and also came out with just 1 point on the chart. Even other players like JTA scored 2 points with 1 of 2 in the field goals.

The Lakers‘ bench has been without a doubt one of the worst in the NBA. So far in the 9 games, the bench has scored only 32.6 ppg in 87.5 minutes per game. They have made 4.1 threes per game and have scored a total of 293 points so far this season.

The good news for the Lakers and Darvin Ham is the return of Dennis Schröder. Patrick Beverly missed his 2nd straight game with Dennis Schröder who is yet to feature in the Lakers’ contention with his thumb injury. The turn of the Lakers’ fate is already long-awaited and hopefully, Dennis’ return could fuel things up.
