“He’s the most skilled big man” Daryl Morey believes this year would finally be Joel Embiid’s MVP season
Daryl Morey and Joel Embiid
Philadelphia 76Eers star Joel Embiid has quietly yet deservingly earned a name for himself in the NBA league. Injuries had constantly marred Joel in his initial days, but now everyone knows him as a force to be reckoned with. Sixers President of Basketball operations Daryl Morey highlighted Joel as an important name in the mix during a recent interview on Sirus XM radio.
Daryl Morey said, “He’s the most skilled big man I’ve ever been around. We’re gonna get him through the season as we have the last couple years and we’re excited for another MVP level of play.” Daryl looks confident that Joel will be able to give out an MVP-like performance with only a few days remaining for the NBA season to begin.
Joel averaged a career-high 30.6 points per game last season and became the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to win the NBA’s scoring title. Joel Embiid’s incredible play has got many eyes on him but not enough of them to secure an MVP trophy. He’s finished second on the the list behind Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic for the award run in the last two seasons.
Joel Embiid becomes a US citizen
Phila star Joel Embiid was granted US citizenship two weeks back in Philadelphia. He was born in Cameroon and has never competed in major international tournaments. The 28-year-old Cameroon native shared this news during the 76ers training camp that he has sworn in two weeks ago in Philadelphia. Joel said, “I’ve been here for a long time, my son is American. I felt like, I’m living here and it’s a blessing to be an American. So I said, why not?” Joel hasn’t thought about which team he will represent in the Olympics yet. He said, “I just want to be healthy and win a championship and go from there.” He graduated from high school in Florida and played one season at Kansas before getting drafted third overall in 2014. Embiid is preparing to play for the sixers in the ninth NBA season of his career.
