David Falk shares his thoughts on LeBron James
LeBron James is arguably one of the greatest ever to play basketball, but without a doubt he is definitely the most heavily criticized. At 37 years of age, he is still doing wonders despite the Los Angeles Lakers having a nightmarish season. It takes someone like David Falk, Michael Jordan’s manager to truly tell you the aura and authority a superstar like LeBron James possesses. The 2021-22 NBA season is one to forget for the Basketball giants In Los Angeles. Harbouring a star-studded lineup, with One of the All-Time Greats, LeBron James himself, and two future Hall of Famers in Anthony Davis and freshly traded, Russell Westbrook, the Lakers looked ready to dominate on paper.
Gloom and misery settled over the streets of Los Angeles as they crashed out of playoffs with a dreadful record of 33-49. Lebron James played a big role in building this team and he got exactly what he wanted, he got involved in personnel decisions, favoring Westbrook over DeMar DeRozan. the whole Russell Westbrook trade is still a giant head-scratcher. The Lakers had a pretty solid bench that was traded away for Westbrook. General Manager Rob Pelinka appeased Lebron James by getting Russel Westbrook and trading away Kyle Kuzma and KCP, which added to their problems even more.

“LeBron James is not helping himself”
LeBron James often receives the heat for the Los Angeles Lakers’ woes. He is not picked on for his performances on the pitch, but for his decision making off the pitch. He is rumored to have been the enforcer of Russell Westbrook’s signing to the franchise. James’ stellar career and illustrious achievements have earned him respect from across the league. This attention gave him the opportunity to be a determining factor in front office recruitment resolutions.
He is of immense importance to the franchise and that is the only factor that gives him that much power. Although it has not been proven, the strength of the four-time NBA champion can be said to be equivalent to that of a general manager. Some people believe LeBron James is just for the Lakers and practically runs the franchise. One of them is David Falk:
LeBron is a very special player. There’s no one in the NBA who doesn’t think that LeBron runs the team, That he oversees player extensions, he oversees trade and for the most part he’s even involved in negotiations for some players.”
“I’m a huge LeBron fan, I think he got his due, but there is a saying in the law that a lawyer representing himself is stupid for a client.”
Falk has implied that the Lakers need a professional general manager to help the team get back to winning ways. He stated that agents would not have him as a player and in the same vein, players would not have him as general manager, and therefore a line needed to be drawn.
“I don’t think agents will do well as players in the NBA and I don’t think players should qualify to be general managers,” Falk said. “So I think there needs to be a line drawn.”
Falk implores James to focus on his game and segregate basketball and politics if he wants to get any closer Michael Jordan in GOAT debate and win more Championships.
