Dejounte Murray, the Atlanta Hawks guard criticized Tony Parker for not being a great teammate and role model for him and young players. He joined the “All the Smoke” podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson and blamed Parker that he did not only for not mentoring him but also made his life harder when he was with the Spurs. Murray also said that his former teammate left the team for Charlotte Hornets because he was replaced by young Dejounte.
Dejounte Murray said that his veteran teammates with the Spurs were trying to mentally tire him. He stated, “They bring in a point guard from Argentina [Nicolas Laprovittola] that’s close with Manu, playing in front of me. Mind you, I’m behind Tony, Patty, but they’re playing these mind games,” he added.
The Atlanta Hawks guard is one of the toughest players in the league at such a young age. He said that his teammates were trying to break him mentally, which was too much for him. “They tryna see if they can break you. They want you to break yourself…What they put me through, bro, I don’t understand,” he recalled. “People don’t realize I went through so much there,” Murray added.
Later, the All-Star player said that one of the reasons that he was treated badly in San Antonio was due to his background. “I was there 6 years. I feel like really, and they know I feel this way,” said the Seattle born. Apparently, his coming from the wood was a big problem for his team and his teammates. “I feel like they drafted me, but they feel like the stuff that was going around the air of me coming from the hood,” he added.

Dejounte Murray says the Spurs used to kick him out of the gym
The current Atlanta guard also said he was trying to show himself by going to the practices to the level he had to be kicked out of the gym. Moreover, also added that Parker and others started to kick him out of the gym. “Just from the stuff I had to go through. When they have seen like he needs a chance and this m*****f**ker be in the gym… They had to start kicking me out of the gym,” Murray said. He said that since he wasn’t playing, he was just going to the gym and getting fit.
Murray later got a spot on the Spurs roster and replaced Tony Parker. The call was made by head coach Gregg Popovich. “Pop brought us into the office, he told Tony. Afterward, Murray added that it was for that reason that Parker left for the Hornets that season. “Tony ain’t like it… [he] wouldn’t have gone to Charlotte. He would’ve stayed right there,” Murray concluded.
