“How ya bum a*s feeling tonight?” – Dejounte Murray gets SCORCHED by NBA Twitter for horrible performance in Hawks’ season-ending loss to Celtics

The Boston Celtics eliminated the Atlanta Hawks from the playoffs with a 128-120 road win in Game 6. It was an intense contest until the Celtics went on a late run to take control of the game. The Hawks on the other hand had a great chance to force Game 7, though couldn’t do much against Boston’s defense in the fourth quarter. Atlanta led after three quarters, though things really started to take a turn in the fourth for the Hawks.

Trae Young and his teammates did all they could to extend the lead, but couldn’t overcome the Celtics’ 14-3 run late in the game. Boston outscored the Hawks 30-20 in the fourth to win the contest. Young finished the game with 30 points and 10 assists while shooting a low 32% from the field.

Celtics on the other hand were led by Jaylen Brown putting up 32 points and Jayson Tatum filled the stat sheet with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Marcus Smart (22 points) and Malcolm Brogdon (17 points) also stepped up for Boston. It was a collective effort from the Celtics which helped them close out the series. For the Hawks, it was quite the opposite.

The game would’ve had a different outcome if it wasn’t for below-average performances from Young’s supporting cast. By halftime, Hawks’ Dejounte Murray had 0 points, going 0-5 from the field. This performance of his had fans on Twitter heated. In the end, Murray finished the game with 14 points and 11 assists, though scoring-wise, Dejounte had one of the worst nights of his career. He shot 38% from the field, going 5-13. Even though his numbers look decent, as he scored in the second half, the Hawks needed help in the first two quarters.

Besides Young, Murray was the other key scorer alongside John Collins for this series. Up until Game 6, Murray was averaging 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals a game. This stat line of his was just what the Hawks needed tonight. But Murray, who missed the Hawks’ Game 5 win with a suspension, delivered an underwhelming performance in a must-win game for his team. NBA fans on Twitter did not hold back in their criticism of the Hawks star:

The Hawks will ponder on what could’ve been and focus on recalibrating in the summer. The Celtics will face the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
