“I’m not like my REAL father” Dennis Rodman blames his dad for all of his integral issues

Dennis Rodman and his father

Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman is not particularly familiar with his father. Rodman, a former forward for the Pistons, Spurs, Bulls, Lakers, and Mavericks, had not seen his father in 42 years since the appropriately named Philander Rodman abandoned his mother 48 years prior. That is, until recently, when the Philippine city of Manila was accidentally visited by the barnstorming team Dennis plays for, and Dennis unexpectedly agreed to a brief reunion with his father. A resident of the nation since the 1970s, Philander passed away in 2021 in Angeles City, Pampanga, a region northwest of Manila.

One of the NBA’s most distinctive characters was Dennis Rodman. His bizarre demeanor attracted a sizable following. But he became a terrific basketball player thanks to his ability to rebound and his effect on the floor. Rodman is well-known for his crucial contribution to the Chicago Bulls’ second three-peat, and he is often referred to as the defensive rock for a group that became a dynasty in the 1990s. Rodman, who didn’t truly acknowledge his father as a part of his life until lately, has had to do it alone since he was a kid. In an interview on the Oprah Winfrey show, Rodman discussed his challenges as a father and also discussed the impact of his mother on his personality.

Dennis Rodman’s eccentric NBA career

One of the finest rebounders in NBA history is Dennis Rodman, thus nicknamed, “The Worm.” In the end, Rodman captured five NBA titles as h e relentlessly went for loose balls and gave his teams a solid defense. He put in a lot of effort, which resulted to his being selected to the NBA All-Star team twice and leading the league in rebounds for seven seasons. He was twice named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and spent eight seasons on the NBA All-Defensive Team. Rodman was selected for the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team in 2022 and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Dennis Rodman excelled as a defender and a rebounder. He was also a player with the NBA champion Bad Boys Pistons. Before the game even begins, they both enjoy penetrating a player’s mind. It will be tempting to bring up the controversies, haircuts, piercings, etc. every time Rodman’s name is mentioned. But in addition to the criticism, we must also take into account the hustle, tenacity, toughness, defense, and willingness to put his life in danger for his team. Consider Rodman and everything that he accomplished that was unusual, but also consider the qualities that made him one of the best players ever.

Rodman hadn’t seen his father since he came into contact with him in 2012, Philander wanted Rodman to know that he had not abandoned their American family. However, it created a gap in his life and Rodman discussed his challenges as a father in a 1996 interview on the Oprah Winfrey show. He said: “I’m not like my real father, not like him he had like all these damn kids and stuff like that and I only got four kids.” He later continued: “My mother said, ‘You know, I would never hug my kids’. She never did, she never hugged us, never kissed us nothing. I’m the same way I guess.”

Even while he may be thinking about his late father, Dennis has made careful not to act in a way that would be contrary to his ideas. He only has three children, one of whom plays for the USWNT. He made an effort to become closer to his kids in 2017 and has been much more involved in their lives. The Worm made a straightforward choice since he wished to watch his children mature. Dennis Rodman has left the party scene behind and is now entirely focused on becoming a wonderful father.
