The Los Angeles Lakers have made the first major move in the season. While the media and fans slept on the Lakers for their indifference toward LeBron James and for exploring the market, they made the move. Rui Hachimura was traded to the Lakers from Washington Wizards for Kendrick Nunn and 3 second-round picks. The news did come as a shocker for many, but none were as surprised as Los Angeles star Dennis Schroder.
Schroder was live on Twitch when he got the news. After watching the video it is quite clear that the guard was left stunned by the Lakers’ trade move. When Schroder heard the news, he was stunned and it was clear from his expression that he did not even have any idea about the trade. “What trade? Rui? Oh no. Hell no. Rui for Kendrick Nunn? Oh my God,” said Dennis.
It’s perhaps difficult to try to know if the Lakers star was happy or sad with the trade. But he was certainly shocked. As soon as he heard the news, he said he had to text them. “I gotta text Rui. I gotta text Kendrick Nunn,” shocked Schroder said. As surprising as it might feel for the Lakers, perhaps it was a good trade for Los Angeles.
The best players have been traded for the benefit of the team. In the last few years, the Lakers have been the trade capital in the NBA. The German-born player said it’s all about business in the NBA. “That’s crazy man. The NBA, it’s a business. Insane,” reacted Dennis.
Can Rui Hachimura solve the Lakers’ problems?
LeBron James knows how to extract the maximum production out of his teammates. Thomas Bryant and Dennis Schroder all have been role players in whichever team they have ended up with. The European player’s worth suddenly increased with the Lakers. Bryant was just a role player with the Wizards. His numbers and overall production have also increased over time in LA.
Rui would be able to provide James with plenty of help if not all. The newly acquired star is a big man. He can provide James with some help on both ends of the floor. He can get rebounds and block shots on the defensive end. But his biggest contribution would come on the offensive side. The 4 x league MVP likes to play in the paint, and Rui’s presence would give him plenty of space for scoring. It is not that the Lakers have finally found a solution to the problem, of course, that would be shooting. However, Hachimura is definitely an improvement to the roster.
