According to a statement made by the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, star Stephen Curry has been sidelined indefinitely after sustaining partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane. In addition, Curry also suffered a lower leg contusion. He will be sidelined for a number of weeks due to the injury, according to Shams Charania. He also added that an official timetable will be released at a later time.

In a Warriors’ PR update on Twitter, the statement was updated saying that the reigning Finals MVP  had a partial tear and contusion in his lower leg. “An MRI last night confirmed that Curry suffered partial tears to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane as well as a contusion to his lower leg.” the statement said. PR also added that the Warriors’ star would not be playing against Oklahoma City. “He will not play in tomorrow’s game against Oklahoma City and additional clarity on a potential timeline will be established in the coming days,” the statement added.

Curry was hurt on Saturday night while the Warriors defeated the Dallas Mavericks. With 2:01 remaining in the third quarter; he was reported to have suffered a left lower leg injury. Chef Curry and Mavericks guard McKinley Wright IV appeared to knock knees while Curry was attempting to stop Wright from driving. He exited the game to go to the locker room after his leg gave way inward.

This is not the first time Steph has suffered an injury. Earlier in the season after having a series of stellar performances and carrying his team, he suffered a shoulder injury. So far, the Warriors have underachieved this season and Curry’s extended absence would be devastating. They are struggling this season, with a 27-26 record through 53 games despite winning the title last year. As of right now, they are the seventh seed in the Western Conference. However, the conference is so tight that even a short absence from Curry may eliminate them from the playoff picture. Curry had made it to the all-star this season, in his absence, perhaps De’Aaron Fox would replace him.
