The Memphis Grizzlies have been in the news since the beginning of the season. However, the timeline is separated into negative and positive publicity. Earlier, they were considered to be the team to beat in the West as they maintained their top position in the Conference. In the later part of the season, they have been in the news for frequent brawls on and off the court. Dillon Brooks and Donovan Mitchell got into a massive scuffle on Thursday, during the recent game between Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies.

In the middle of the third quarter, at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Brooks had a layup blocked in the paint. The play got him eventually knocked to the ground. He rolled over and whacked Mitchell in the groin with his hand. Donovan Mitchell was catching the deflected ball behind Brooks. The Cavs star threw the ball at Brooks in retaliation, which opened up the pandora’s box of anger. However, it was not only the players that were involved in the brawl. The coaches and officials had to get involved in the brawl to separate the players. The players were finally separated.

Before the separation, Dillon knocked one of his own coaching staff members on the ground. He was trying to stop the fight and had to tackle Brooks. Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff stood up for his star player and said that if players like Brooks play like that on the court, his player has every right to stand up for himself. “If someone makes a play like that, you have the right to stand up for yourself … We don’t have guys that start s**t, but we have guys who don’t run from s**t,” Bickerstaff said, via Locked On Cavs’ Evan Dammarell.

Donovan Mitchell says he has been busting Dillon Brooks’ a** for years in the league

Spida later spoke to the media about his fight on the court. Both players have been going against each other for years and perhaps, it came out in the heat of the moment. Moreover, Brook’s trash-talking and getting in trouble on the court is nothing new. Against the teams like Lakers, Warriors, and many others in the league. Moreover, he got his name earned by trash-talking and foul plays rather than putting numbers on the stat page. The fans though were again disappointed from him:

When Mitchell opened up about his heated moment with the Memphis player, he said that that’s what Brooks is. Additionally, there is no place for plays of such kind on the court. “That’s just who he is. We’ve seen it a bunch in this league with him,” Mitchell said. “He and I have had our personal battles for years. Quite frankly, I’ve been busting his a** for years … There’s no place for that in the game. You have to protect yourself at the end of the day,” he said. The Cavs defeated the Grizzlies 128-113.
