“They are PANDERING to China” Donald Trump publicly criticized Steve Kerr for skipping WHITE HOUSE visit
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is a man of honour, who is known to hold his calm more often than not. Having led the Dubs to their supreme best, it seems like not even him could escape the wrath of former President Donald Trump after he skipped the championship-visit to the White House.
To those who are not aware, the NBA unofficially boycotted the White House visit from 2017 to 2021, during the tenure of Donald Trump. When Steve Kerr was inquired about the same, he had a response which even left the host surprised. The main reason why NBA team boycotted the White House visit was Donald Trump being the president of the United States. His rhetoric divided people before he became President and during it, as well. The Golden State players were very conscious of that.
Donald Trump launched an attack on Steve Kerr
Coach Steve Kerr revealed that during this time, he got asked political questions by the press all the time. The coach was on comedian Jon Stewart’s podcast. “It was probably my low point as a coach in terms of my response,” said Kerr, “I was kind of ashamed of my response”.
When asked to elaborate further, Kerr said, “Because I didn’t take a stand and so people rightfully criticized me. President Trump criticized me in his statement the next day.”
That seemed to be the boiling point for the former President of US. Donald Trump criticized Steve Kerr due to his response to NBA’s links with China. According to the former President, Kerr couldn’t answer the question properly and yet will talk badly about the United States. He thought that Kerr and San Antonio Spurs’ coach, Greg Popovich were ‘pandering’ to China by criticizing him.
This was the first time, when Trump had publicly launched an attack on any other personnel from the NBA world apart from Stephen Curry or LeBron James.
