Draymond Green is back in the NBA headlines and the reason this time isn’t him bullying or punching a teammate. Instead, it’s regarding him getting benched by Head Coach, Steve Kerr during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. Draymond Green wasn’t in his best form during last year’s post-season run. He wasn’t playing his game and wasn’t acting like the guy we have known for a decade.

Draymond Green was really having some of the worst games of his career last year. And, the Finals’ seven-game series which ended in six games with the Dubs lifting the title was a rollercoaster ride for him. As the former DPOY went through a lot in that series. He was heckled, trolled and even called names for his poor form. Game 4 though was a special one.

On one side Draymond Green was benched due to his form and on the other end, GSW’s leader Stephen Curry was getting the job done single-handedly. As he dropped 43 points, 4 assists and 10 rebounds against the Celtics. Green to this day is thankful to Steph for that heroic performance of his when he wasn’t able to ball out and was benched by Kerr.

Draymond Green recently appeared on the latest episode of Uninterrupted’s “Throwing Bones.” And, there he revealed how he felt disrespected by Steve Kerr for getting benched and being out of play during the very crucial minutes. Revealing his true feelings, the 4× NBA champion said: “I even got benched in Game 4. I got offense/defense subbed – by the way, I felt like that was disrespectful as f—k.”

But Draymond Green being a smart guy knew how it aged well and was important for the coach to do. As he further added: “But, it’s cool. Like, I didn’t take it personal because the only thing that was important to me was to win a championship. Afterwards, I had to take myself to a place of, like, don’t go down that road. Because for me, that road can get ugly.”

The Game 4 win came in big for the Warriors or else things today would have been very different for the franchise. As Green, one of the dirtiest players around the league wouldn’t have settled for a loss. Because he has also mentioned: “So for me, I’m like, ‘All right, I got benched. We won. I’m cool.’ Had I got benched and we lost, though, I’m not sure I would have handled it well.”

Steve Kerr months ago gave out his reason for benching Green in the “Point Forward,” podcast. There defending his decision Kerr said: “I’ve been here now eight years, so I know all these guys so well. I didn’t really think much about it when I took Draymond out in Game 4. Because that unit was not doing well…”

Further, Kerr added: “You can’t worry about anybody’s feelings being hurt or anything like that… Sure enough, when the run ended and we went back to him, he was great and made huge plays down the stretch and it all worked out.”

It really worked well for the Warriors as they won it all against the Celtics. And, later Green who in Game 4 suited for 33 minutes and got 2 points, 8 assists and 9 rebounds was back in form. As for the rest of the series he was back as the leader and leading the defensive end so the Dubs can lift the title.
