“He’s the smartest guy to step foot on the court” Draymond Green believes facing LeBron James was tougher than Boston Celtics

Draymond Green and Lebron James

Despite trailing the Draymond Green and the Warriors 3-2 in the series, the Boston Celtics have put up a good fight so far. The C’s have won two games against the three-time champs with to dogged defence and an explosive scoring arsenal, and a win on Thursday might force a Game 7 against them. Despite this, facing the Celtics is a minor mental challenge compared to facing LeBron James. Lebron’s basketball brilliance distinguishes him from previous Cavs teams, and it’s what sets him apart from this current Celtics squad.

Though Green recognised that Boston is a strong opponent, he believes that facing LeBron in these levels is unrivalled. Green had to compete against James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for each of his three rings. Few matchups matched the stability of Golden State vs. Cleveland over that time period, with the Warriors defeating LeBron in 2015, 2017, and 2018, and LeBron winning in 2016.

The Warriors were in great spirits as they made their way to the NBA Finals in 2022, but the Celtics suddenly found themselves with their backs against the wall. Golden State, on the other hand, came back from a 1-2 deficit to position itself one win away from championship glory. On Friday night in the TD Garden, where they began their comeback last week, Steve Kerr’s team will try to complete the job. Draymond Green spoke to the media ahead of Game 6 as the Warriors look to win their first title since 2018.

The Warriors will have their work cut out for them if they are to win the series. They’ll have to beat the Celtics on their home court if they want to win on Thursday, which won’t be easy. If they don’t, they’ll have to fight in a Game 7, and in either cases, it will be a battle for the Warriors, just as it was against LeBron James.

Draymond Green with high praise for Lebron.

Draymond Green offered an interesting view on the mental effort required to beat a team like the Celtics during his press conference. While admitting that they are a difficult team to face, Green made it clear that no opponent is more difficult for him than a team led by LeBron James. “It doesn’t compare to mentally playing against LeBron James, who I think is arguably the smartest guy to ever play this game” Green said when asked to compare this current series to the Warriors’ Finals against Cavs in the past.

While he understands how tough the Boston Celtics are, he believes their challenges bear little resemblance to those faced by LeBron James. Green makes some valid comments, and it’s worth noting that it had nothing to do with criticizing the Celtics. LeBron James is one of the most difficult players to face in the league, especially during the playoffs. James is absolutely unique, a one-of-a-kind talent who, at times, seems to be in a class by himself and Green considers James to be one of the all-time greats.
