The NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and the league’s player discipline procedures were the targets of a recent, passionate, and epic tirade by Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. Known for speaking up and being direct, Green would not hold back when addressing what he believed to be unfair treatment of players. 

In reference to Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert‘s headlock from last week, which resulted in his ejection and five-game suspension. Along with the punishment came a statement claiming that Green’s history of unsportsmanlike behavior had contributed to its severity—a statement Green claims is unjust.  The reason for Green’s ban is a fight that broke out between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels on November 14 during a game between the Warriors and Timberwolves.

Draymond Green vented his annoyance and said that Adam Silver and the NBA were enforcing unfair and biased punishments, implying a lack of openness in the proceedings. The player for the Warriors also criticized the NBA for its seemingly capricious rulings regarding technical fouls and ejections. According to Green, there is inconsistency in the current system.

To continue mentioning like, 'Oh, well, what he did in the past...' I paid for those, like I got suspended in game 5 of the Finals. So, you can't keep suspending me for those actions.

Besides Green’s personal frustrations, his outburst has raised broader concerns in the NBA community about the need for a fair and transparent disciplinary process. Fans, players, and analysts are keenly observing how the league addresses the problems highlighted by one of its esteemed players during these challenging times.

Draymond Green’s career fines and ejections

By the time this 5-match ban ends, Green will have 19 game ejections and a cumulative total of nine game suspensions under his belt. The Warriors are currently experiencing a four-game losing streak with their Tuesday loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, so Green’s ban comes at a difficult time.

Draymond Green’s salary is suspended, potentially costing him $769,704. Including this most recent sanction, Green’s career fines and suspensions come to $2,231,780. This includes the punishment and wage forfeiture he recently received for his play against the Timberwolves involving Gobert.
