“Players are in control of their situation” Draymond Green calls out media for their double standards against Kevin Durant amid trade request

Draymond Green and Kevin Durant

Since joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant have seen ups and downs in their friendship. Durant received harsh criticism when he decided to leave Oklahoma City for the Warriors, a team he was never able to beat.After three years and two championships, he tried to join forces with Irving on the Nets, but it didn’t work out, so he’s now seeking for a trade. Although Durant and Green did not part ways peacefully in 2019, that does not seem to have stopped Draymond from standing up for his former teammate.

Host of The Draymond Green Show Draymond Green defended the forward a s NBA players are now businesspeople and conduct their operations like companies and Green stated how Durant’s desire to leave the Nets is a business decision. Three weeks after the Dubs won their fourth NBA championship in eight years on Thursday, Green took the mic and shared a viewpoint that marks the most recent turning point in the two players’ ever-evolving professional careers who are  future Hall of Famers.

Kevin Durant’s recent trade request out of Brooklyn

The NBA’s top two teams were at the top of Kevin Durant‘s list of desired destinations when he made a formal trade request earlier this month. Since then, there has been a fierce bidding war for the multiple All-Star. After three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and just one postseason series victory, Durant officially requested for a trade from the team. When Durant departed the Oklahoma City Thunder for the Bay Area 6 years ago, he was subject to harsh criticism, including multiple claims that he had chosen the easiest route to success.

The Nets, who boasted the big three of James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant, entered this season as the clear favourites and strong favourites to win the title. Now, Harden is a member of the Philadelphia 76er and  Irving missed most of the season because he refused to be vaccinated. The Boston Celtics swept the Brooklyn Nets in the opening round of the postseason. It’s sufficient to state that things haven’t gone as expected. Despite being offensive heavyweights, the Boston Celtics defence smothered Kevin Durant and Irving.

When critics in the public and media blast Durant for leaving his team, Draymond serves as a timely reminder of the influence today’s stars wield. “Why does that mean he’s running from something? I don’t understand that. Players are in control of their situation. Players are in control of their destiny. That’s the next step in his career”, he stated on his podcast. Green addressed both the criticism Durant has received over the past eight days in-depth as well as how pro players’ career decisions are typically perceived differently from those of people working in other fields.

As the Nets organisation prepares for a summer full of uncertainty, things are looking pretty grim. The fates of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, as well as potential coaching changes, are Sean Marks’ top priorities for the Nets. The only thing Durant wants is to win, and he must now realise that playing for the Nets will make it difficult for him to achieve that.
