Brittney Griner has been a regular name in the NBA and WNBA headlines. But she has not stepped on a basketball court for months. She was drafted first overall in the league and has the potential to do it all alone. But unfortunately, everything for her is at rest since she was arrested in Russia months ago at an airport and was accused for smuggling drugs. Britney sent a letter to the White House on Monday appealing directly to President Joe Biden to fight for her freedom. The President her and her family on Wednesday that they are doing everything in their power to bring her back safely.
Brittney has, in span of some years of her basketball career, stacked up with a unbelievable godlike resume. Brittney Griner is one of the most prominent and dominating forces the women’s league has ever seen. She is great on both the ends but her defensive skillset just has some edges overs the offensive one.

“The President called Cherelle to reassure her” – Brittney Griner appeals before the President to bring her back
President Joe Biden and Cherelle Griner, wife of WNBA star Brittney Griner, spoke on the phone Wednesday after the president received a letter from Brittney Griner, who is imprisoned in Russia. Griner has been detained in Russia since February, weeks before the nation launched an invasion of Ukraine. In the letter, Griner reportedly asked for Biden’s assistance to be released.
“The President called Cherelle to reassure her that he is working to secure Brittney’s release as soon as possible, as well as the release of Paul Whelan and other U.S. nationals who are wrongfully detained or held hostage in Russia and around the world,” the White House said in a statement about the call.
Cherelle has been very vocal about speaking with Biden in the leadup to Brittney’s trial — which began last Friday — saying last Thursday that she “would love” for the President “to tell me he cares.” Griner’s representatives released parts of that letter on Monday, which pleads the president to help her come home.
“As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever. On the 4th of July, our family normally honors the service of those who fought for our freedom, including my father who is a Vietnam War Veteran. It hurts thinking about how I usually celebrate this day because freedom means something completely different to me this year.”
It’s high time for the US Government to get their athlete Britney Griner out of Russia or else as quoted by the expert she may be stuck there for years. At the end it may end as a deal where everything depends up on what United States of America is willing to give up. Many believe Russia can demand US to loosen the constricting economic sanctions.
