Draymond Green takes a slight jab at New York Knicks fans in defense of Trae Young. Young has been New York’s villain ever since he eliminated them in the 2021 NBA Playoffs.
The Atlanta Hawks star was at the “Draymond Green Live Show” as the main guest. The pair then discussed how he deals with being the league’s villain. Green defended Young and explained why fans should not confuse being a villain with being a competitor.
Draymond, on the show hosted by “The Volume,” shot at Knicks fans, “New York fans are f–k–g delusional … You (Trae Young) go in the garden, you hitting the shots, you bowing, you are very much so a showman, but yet that’s been flipped into being this villain.” Green also weighed in on being labeled a villain, “I’ll be the first to say it, being a villain it sucks, like it’s no fun.“
Young also commented on Green’s comments, “Sh*t ain’t really fun being a villain. I really just feed off the crowd… been that way since high school when I was averaging 40… I’d rather just go out there, put on a show, have fun, smile and get the win.” The Hawks star has had several incidents with fans chanting slurs at him during games.
Young has become the enemy of the fanbase of the New York Knicks and recently made some new foes after he went up against the Boston Celtics this year. Although the Hawks lost the series to the Celtics, the fans have not forgiven Young for his dagger in game 5 of that matchup.
Trae Young debunks the ‘Coach Killer’ narrative

While they were on the topic, Trae Young took the opportunity to clear the air around a narrative that had been put around him. The 6-foot guard has been labeled a coach killer, which the player does not take lightly. Young is with his third coach in just his fifth year in the league.
Young commented, “Being labeled a coach killer was crazy to me. Lloyd, he was my first coach. He was perfect for us. We were a young team. LP (Lloyd Pierce) would tell you he was brought in to develop guys.” He also shed light on his relationship with his second coach, “A lot of people want to label it like me vs. him (Nate McMillan), yeah we butted heads a couple times, but we always had respect for each other. With Nate, we got to the Conference Finals.”
Trae Young will now be under a new coach, Quin Snyder, after the departure of Nate McMillan. The Hawks are looking for revenge as they were out-dueled by Jayson Tatum and the Celtics this past season.
