The Golden State Warriors are officially eliminated from the 2023 NBA playoffs. They faced a strong Los Angeles Lakers lineup away from home in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals. The Lakers had a 6-0 record at home in the playoffs as the Warriors took them on in hopes of keeping their season alive. However, the defending champions failed as Los Angeles outclasses the Warriors in a 21-point blowout.
Klay Thompson continued to struggle as he shot 6.1% in total. Andrew Wiggins, too, didn’t have the greatest games, as he managed to score just 8 points. Stephen Curry was the lone warrior for the Warriors, who put up a fight with 32 points. For the Lakers, LeBron James scored 30 points alongside Austin Reaves, who was impressive with his 23 points. The score at the end of regulation was 101-122. Draymond Green spoke to the media in a post-game conference in depth about his much-speculated future with the Golden State Warriors.
Draymond Green was asked about his plans and focus during the off-season.“My number one primary focus is my family. That is always the most important thing to me,” he said, answering the press. “Other priorities? I have a media business I’m trying to build and then we’ll see what happens as far as my contract goes. Obviously, I haven’t opted out everybody knows about that.”
Green then started talking about his future with the Golden State Warriors. “I wanna be a Warrior for the rest of my life. I wanna ride out with the same dudes I rode in with. We’ve put the work in to make that happen.” Green also went on to explain that it’s never as bad as it seems. “Those are some of my priorities. Travel a little bit. Refill the cup. Possibly play FIBA and work my a** off and be better next year.”
Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr talks about Game 6 loss
Steve Kerr was asked about his views on the Warriors losing in the Western Conference for the first time in 10 years. Speaking about the Game 6 loss to the Lakers, he said, “The better team won. I can’t fault our players for the efforts, our staff, everybody doing everything possible to win. So there’s no regrets. But losing sucks. It just does. This is the highest competition in the world and our guys just thrive in competition and we came up short today.”
Kerr also spoke about how he felt about the season as a whole and that he focussed on more positives than negatives. “To be fair, I think this team ultimately maxed out. We were barely in the playoff picture for most of the year, So to make that push, to win an epic first-round series and to give the Lakers a fight in this series and have our chances. That puts us among the top eight teams in the league. That’s probably where we should be. This is not a championship team. If we were, we’d be moving on,” he said.
The Warriors will head into the off-season with plans to make a comeback next year. Stephen Curry will look to take some time off, while Klay Thompson will want to find and regain his lost rhythm. LeBron James and the Lakers, on the other hand, will now face the Denver Nuggets for the Western Conference Finals.
